Joe Helms
Profile
Born in 1967 in Prince George County Maryland. His family moved around a bit living in Hawaii and California, due to his father’s position in the Navy, before returning to Maryland. There his drive to produce art grew. Participating in the Maryland Gifted and Talented Program and receiving the National Academy Achievement Award for Art in high school he received a scholarship to the Maryland Institute College of Art. Graduating from MICA in 1990 with a BFA in painting, he immediately began working as a freelance artist. For the past 18 years Joe Helms Studios has produced around a thousand murals all over the entire East coast and throughout the mid-west, all the while continuing to have exhibitions of personal works. Currently residing in Illinois with his wife and two children, Joe continues to produce work and is available for murals, portraits and fine art commissions.
