This was to be my major work for the exhibition NO HOME… then I produced ‘’Central Station, any night of the week’’ to fill the space left by one of our artists who went AWOL. While still researching the topic I came across Flower’s image on RB’s home page; I was amazed by the commentry that her image (since removed) solicited from the Bubble community. Its sheer volume, and its intensity. I decided this had to be the subject of my artwork for the exhibition.. it covered a whole gammut of thinking, people’s reactions to the issues, their pre-conceptions and assumptions.
And it gave access to Red Bubble to a broad audience, bringing a virtual furore out into the ‘’real world’’. People DID actually take the time to read the text.
as for achieving real gains, the exhibition was attended by 3x State and 1x Federal politician, raised over $1,800 for Hope Street-Urban Compassion, and has progressed the conversation regarding the issues surrounding homelessness in the broader community. Its a start.
