Caribbean Gardens are part market, part amusent park, part 1970s throwback and part soviet-esque post-apocalyptic landscape. Regardless, it’s a truly fascinating place, and well worth a visit if you’re in Outer Eastern Melbourne on a Wednesday or Sunday.

gives me the shivers this, if this is meant to represent a post -apocalyptic landscape, maybe post-nuclear, then the sculptor / artist has done a bang-on job.. an dyou have capptured the spirit of the work absolutely. A favourite i think

scarily enough, the post-apocalyptic connotations are entirely unintentional on the garden’s part – this stuff, I’m sure, was cutting edge back in the 70s. What you’re looking at here is actually a fibreglass picnic table shade/roof – time and neglect are what lends it its eerie atmosphere.

I virtually grew up here jonathan having lived in both Mt.Dandenong and later in Wantirna. Always considered the place quite fascinating myself as a child, (loved buying some kind of toy which would subsequently break or be destroyed soon after!) I have not been back for a long time…and I remember these seats well..accompanied by hot chips and a kamal-esque live soundtrack..wait a second..the name DerekJ springs to mind!!!
