From their debut album, Shake Your Money Maker (1990), The Black Crowes came out of the gates blazing. The music was familiar, yet brilliant, fresh and full of soul.
And as an awkward, music lovin’, 7th grader I was hooked, rockin out to Hard To Handle, Jealous Again and She Talks To Angels, all on heavy FM radio and MTV rotation. I have been a superfan ever since.
The Robinson Brothers, Chris and Rich, play a seminal sound drawn from the roots of American music (rock, blues, country, and soul.) They pay homage to greats from Keith & Mick to Bob Marley, The Band to Leon Russell. Their outstanding catalog of music and seminal live shows are all first-rate. I never miss a tour as each set is a unique and powerful dance party.
I have always wanted to paint the band. The final catalyst was seeing them twice in 2013 on a trail-blazing tour. My Morning Song is one of my favorite tunes, off of their masterpiece Southern Harmony Musical Companion. This image depicts Chris and Rich playing outside on a gorgeous day, as the sun rises behind them.
Brothers Robinson… please keep the flame lit and the music loud!
