Before my camera went everywhere with me, before my heart was thrilled by the still images of what I see, before I could really, really see, this tree was just another tree. It was not a friend to visit from time to time. Even though I admired it, I didn’t stop by to sit and watch the sun set in the company of this old tree. Oh, but when my camera joined me, this tree, this tree! This silhouetted tree!
Sadly, during a recent wind storm, this Princess Tree fell down and is gone. I miss this tree.
The title words come from the lyrics of The Moody Blues song, Twilight Time (1967 album Days of Future Passed).
When the sun goes down,
And the clouds all frown,
Night has begun for the sunset.
See it with your eyes;
The Princess Tree, a non-native plant, is an invasive species in these mountains of North Carolina, USA. It grows quickly and has a short life span (for a tree).
