Black Bear in Autumn
The American black bear (Ursus americanus)

Acrylic on Stretched Canvas
Hand-painted
36 X 24 inches
Original in a private collection

This painting was inspired by a Black Bear that wandered into my yard during Autumn when leaf color was at its most brilliant. As the sun set, a large overhead cloud reflected a golden glow bathing everything in magical luminous light. What a moment!

What a moment! I can’t even imagine what it must be like to have bear wander into my backyard. You are a very talented artist Jean. Beautiful work.

  • Bears and all the wildlife in my neck of the woods is scared of humans. So, no worries. The bear disappeared before I could turn around … and try to get the key in the door which I had just closed behind me. He looked great running down the hill, like a moving black hole in all that gold color.

Beautiful Jean. Did he pose for you long? Very realistic.

  • The pose was a millisecond. How long is a millisecond when a bear looks at you? A small eternity. Thanks for dropping by, Margot! I appreciate the visit.

Awesome creature & very awesome painting!! Is t for sale? Love it with that black frame!!!

  • The original painting is ‘privately owned’ and is no longer for sale. However, I’m hoping to sell cards, prints, and posters. :)

I am quite thrilled to see how it looks in a black frame. The original painting is in a warm dark wood frame.
