Feels Like Someone’s Watching Me
by Jean Gregory Evans

Went to the ground today
To picnic in the pathway
Underneath my home tree
Me, myself and I, only

Found some tasty tidbits
Didn’t have to share with bandits
Twas such a lovely day
But then to my dismay

Gloom and doom overtook me
The World seemed to turn gloomy
Do I dare turn round to see
If someone’s WATCHING me?

Should I move or should I freeze?
Oh, what if I have to sneeze?!
Now I think I’m gonna sneeze!
I know I’m startin’ to wheeze!

Must be that shedding cat
Come out here to chitchat
Why didn’t I bring my hanky?
I knew I might see kitty.

She walks on padded paws
Mousy, silent and soundless
Felt like someone watching me
It’s just kitty watching over me

(Please, do NOT try this at home.
Squirrels and cats don’t usually get along.)

Animal Captions & Confessions

Lucky Girl, a black cat, lives in my home where she can look through the window to view the many squirrels and other wildlife that live in the surrounding woodlands in the beautiful mountains of Macon County in North Carolina, USA.

A lover of art and nature, Jean adores animals, whimsy, smiles, and chocolate chip cookies, not necessarily in that order.

What a great shot!!! Bet you see this all the time but to capture it so brilliantly …. well done! Love the poem too.

  • Thank you, YouBet! I had to set up a shelf outside the window and place some rocks, leaves, twigs and sunflower seeds. Had many birds and squirrels visit. Lucky LOVED it! Made a mess so I had to take it down. I still have the nails in the wall so I can reconstruct it from time to time.

Wonderful capture, this is so sweet!

  • Thank you, Ray! I’m glad you enjoy it. Thank goodness there was a glass window between them. I’ve become rather fond of the squirrel.

Such a clever shot, and great contrast and exposure! That large silhouette of a black cat sure is looming over that squirrel! I think I would be intimidated! :-D This happens at my house too, two cats that sit by the patio doors and observe the world beyond!

  • Thank you, Joanne. The loomer is a great kitty, she spreads joy wherever she goes. Her full name is Happy-Go-Lucky and we call her Lucky. She’s also a very lucky cat since she was rescued when she was tiny from the middle of a busy traffic intersection. Give a little hug from me to your two kittas.

Outstanding, & the perfect poem! We don’t have a cat, but this still feels familiar!! ~ Sheila

  • Feeling like happy dancing with that great compliment on my poem! Never feel up to par with my writing and am a bit shy about posting. I’m glad I could make you recall the ‘familiar feeling’, as unpleasant as it is. Thanks bunches!
