Blue Forest

From a large mesa in Petrified Forest National Park, the dramatic lighting conditions created by a powerful storm and a low sun augment the rich hues of the sedimentary layers and the Painted Desert below. Broken pieces of petrified logs can be seen in the reddish-brown Petrified Forest member of the Chinle Formation.
