On High
My rendition of an often-photographed Japanese Maple at the Portland Japanese Garden, Oregon. A vertical panorama of 12 images, this medium-HDR photo was created to make a 12” X 36” or 8” X 24” print.

Nice comp, love the sunburst, must have been stopped down to f16 or below
Jonathan Cohen replied
Thank you. The sunburst I created digitally over the actual sun. There was a smudge or drop of water on the lens that I needed to cover up.

Awesome find. You captured the colors beautifully. Just a question, what did you do for post production?
Jonathan Cohen replied
This panorama in the end I think is mostly 9 exposures, barely 12 for the very top part. Each set of AEB exposures were combined using the “tone mapping” feature in Photomatix 3. I don’t often like unrealistically HDR images, so my recent exploration of the technique is rather mild, trying to capture more what the eyes actually see. The sun burst, however, was added digitally (although that is exactly where the sun was). I added that to make the scene a little more dramatic, inspirational or spiritual if you will, create a focal point, and to cover up what I think was a smudge on my lens.

Thanks for the info. Very cool image. I am just starting to dabble with HDR, and have many years to go to master the technique.
