Artist's Description

This photo was recently nominated for the Nactus Award an annual herpetological photography competition. I have been hoping for some time to make it into this competition and am quite excited to have had a photo nominated this year. This photo was nominated for Category 8: Scientific record.

Voting for the nominated photos will be held until Nov. 26. To vote for your favorite photo in each of the 8 categories, go to: http://www.exo-terra.com/en/photography/nactus_...

The story behind the photo:
While on a 10 day river trip in the Beni (Amazon Basin region of Bolivia) I heard a frog call I had not heard before. Braving swarms of mosquitoes and crawling through mud up to my waist, I finally found the source of the call, this beautiful Greater Hatchet Faced Treefrog (Sphaenorhynchus lacteus).
