I realize a far stretch because of location? But…maybe a type of Pondhawk? Erythemis simplicicollis
What a GORGEOUS creature…I’m so with green creatures….snakes, lizards, insects….just a fabulous hunter!

  • Hey Carla! That might be right, or at least a place to start. I haven’t had much time to dig around so thanks for the help. I’ll have to look into the range of Erythemis simplicicollis to see if they come down this far south. Trying to ID south american insects is near impossible sometimes.

  • Looks like they do come into SA I just can’t find how far south.

I bet! Maybe you should start up a book with photos to help others? :o)
Luckily these are mosquito eaters…if only we had more!

  • Actually I have kind of been working on a guide to Bolivian Reptiles mostly for my own reference, we’ll see how far it goes… Insects are a little much to tackle! We were always happy when we saw large numbers of dragonflies when we parked on the river, it meant there wouldn’t be as many mosquitoes there!
