A female Brown-throated Three-toed Sloth (Bradypus variegatus) from Braulio Carrillo National Park, Costa Rica.
Three-toed sloths have an extremely slow metabolism. It can take a sloth up to a month to digest a meal of leaves. Three-toed sloths feed almost exclusively on leaves and the long digestion period lets them extract the limited and difficult to accesses nutrients found in tropical tree leaves.
The other day I rescued one of these from the middle of a highway which sent me on a sloth kick and so I dug up this sloth photo from Costa Rica. They are one amazing animal to see up close and the feel of there fur is… remarkable, unlike any other creature’s fur I have felt.
