Wanting to escape. New city. New home. New me. Walls of carved wood call to me across the desert, across flat prairie, across urban blight, across small towns where everyone knows my business, across fields and mountains and snow and rain and cars driving loaded with belongings like photos of Oakies during the dust bowl. Black and white windblown faces. Hard eyes and tough hands. Wanting to escape. To California. But me? I’m already there. I came here to escape. So the scheme is to buy this house on Ebay for next to nothing and pile everything into a truck and go paint all day in a great big mansion with lots of rooms. I can put up different paintings in each room on every floor. I don’t know who would see them because I wouldn’t know anyone and may not want to. But it it doesn’t matter. I was outbid.
