Have you ever thought about what it would be like not to feel physical pain or know the concept of it?
How liberating it would feel to punch that wall without hesitation?
To aim your knuckles at his face guilt free, thinking the only pain anyone would feel would be your sorry heart?
To whirl on a rink of ice on your skates without fear and run down that hill so fast, tears welling in your eyes, tripping over your undone shoelaces, the concrete smacking your teeth, getting up and just keep running?
To pat a shark and tell him it’s o.k., you get angry too.
To break your bones by landing badly, after you jumped from so high, but didn’t worry, just contorted yourself in the air, your mind at one with the wind and air licking your body on the way down?
You could just get back up, snap your limbs back into place and walk off in front of that green car,
just to take a better look at its driver through the windscreen.

It’s a good thought Jess. I’ve been in situations where I’ve been in so much pain that you just don’t feel it anymore…but you know it’s there (especially the next day)!

Oh hell yeah…I do wonder about it..and try to imagine it. But cannot even concieve of it somehow. Oh…to smack someone in the face and not feel a thing….physical OR mental…how glorious it would be!! RARGH!

A couple of times i`ve owned vehicles that accelrate so hard that i initialy got choked up when using the power…an amazing sence of invincibility…heavily laced by adrenalin
no doubt why a lot of younglings kill themselves on the road :)

I know that pain – and yes an instinct to run usually accompanies it!

I do love this. . . and in truth, isn’t life, at it’s essence, very much like this? A free fall. . . a retaining wall at 65. . . an out of control sprint? The only difference is that you can’t see the result so easily. . . no bones broken, no teeth shattered, no flesh missing. . .it’s internal. . .and excruciating to bear witness to. Not physical. .. but leaving us just as broken.
You write, create and think beautifully.

Well written Jessica…
I know the concept of it, have the memory of it I mean, MS took the sensation of feeling away on my right side a few years ago. Can’t feel a dam thing… Sounds like fun until you discover your burning yourself on a hot plate because of the smell of something cooking… you!

no, that doesn’t sound as fun…sorry to hear Karl…

Don’t be… life is what it is, learned not to use that side as much. I’ll get really pissed when it makes me give up photography…

Without knowledge of pain, wouldn’t the pleasures lose all significance?
