Artist's Description

This is the Aldabra Tortoise, the second largest species of all tortoises. Although they live for upto 150 years, this one would be just over 30 years old. This species of tortoise has been labeled as vulnerable, due to the enormous amount that were hunted by sailors for food. Also rats, pigs and dogs have led to further decimation of the species.
I had a real moment with this particular tortoise, I spent a long time talking to it and it allowed me to take this wonderful photo.
