Eleventh Hour, Eleventh Day, Eleventh Month, 1918
The end of the “War to end all wars.”
Many years ago, a tiny man wearing the blue cords, white shirt and red tie uniform of the residents of the Veteran’s Hospital in Montreal, proudly told the newly qualified English radiographer, that he was one of “That contemptible little army” I can’t remember his name, but I cannot forget HIM.
On the Eleventh Hour of the the Eleventh Day of the Eleventh month 2012, I shall stand in my garden, listening to the church bells chime the hour, as I have done since I came to York and with tear in my eye, will remember, honour and respect, that now dead man and all who have made the ultimate sacrifice and those who sadly will in the future, die, so that I can live my life as I wish to.
We SHALL remember them
Harry Patch the last “Tommy” died in 2009.
The very last Commonwealth veteran, Claude Stanley Choules, a British born Australian, died in Perth in 2011.
The American ambulance driver, Frank Buckles died in 2011.
And the very last veteran, Florence Beatrice Green, a member of the Women’s Royal Air Force joined her 2 million comrades in arms in February 2012.
We may not know their names or their stories, but we shall NEVER forget them.

It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it.

“Of one Essence is the human race,
thus has Creation put the base;
One Limb impacted is sufficient
For all Others to feel the Mace ”
—Saadi (1184–1283)

Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.

    … and bless you for your dedication.

  • I cannot and will not celebrate war and wish human kind would put aside the perceived differences which lead to hatred & bloodshed – religion, colour, politics, gender – and work together to create peaceful world where all are equal, where there is no cruelty to animals or people or the planet itself. It won’t happen in my life time and if the Incas were right it won’t happen ever! (Winter Solstice 2012)
    While I won’t celebrate war, I WILL and DO honour those who made my very comfortable life possible and those who will continue to do so.
