I doubt this native 7 Spot Ladybird will survive the cold. There have been 5 huddled into Magnolia leaf buds in my York garden over winter. I saw this one today literally hanging on. I didn’t dare move or touch it for fear of exacerbating an already precarious situation.

Fabulous capture, Jesika !!
What a wonderful capture…. but a sad story. I hope they made it :)
Amazingly, the Ladybird has settled back into the Magnolia bud, safe & sound. Insects are wonderful, aren’t they?

Great close up Jesika. xx
Fantastic macro!
Top shot,Jesika, looks terminal to me,poor little Ladybird!!!
I thought so too, Lance, but insects are resilient little creatures. A thaw has set in and today, (s)he’s safely tucked into the Magnolia bud again!

Thank you. Despite my fears for its life & safety, the Ladybird is secure in the Magnolia bud again

Went out into the garden, this afternoon, Jesika, to try and emulate this super image – not a hope – I keep viewing this and thinking what an excellent image – lol
Not much chance in these “tropical” temperatures, Mattie, I think this little chap(ess) was frozen in place. But it survived, thankfully. The 7 Spots are out in vast numbers, to my delight and today I saw 10!!! tiny Pine Ladybirds in about 20 yards. I would be happy to see 6 in a whole season.
