PETITION!!!

I’m at my wits end about this new setup. It has affected a lot of things in a negative manner. Quite a few people have noted that their numbers are down. Views, comments and even friends (who have left because of frustration with the new setup).

This is an impassioned request that if you would like to persuade the redbubble authority to change the setup, please say that below!

Some have left, others are planning to leave if it doesn’t change.

This petition will shown to the redbubble staff in hopes that improvements will be made.

I, Jerame, petition that the new setup be changed for improvement! I have decreased my activity on here and will leave if no change is made because it has stopped being enjoyable.

  • Tara Sheffer-Archie

I second that!!! I am entirely upset about the loss of views, comments, and people resigning from the site due to this change. My problem lies with what I have stated above.

I want things back to the way that they were. The whole vibe of this place has changed, and not in a positive way. As Tara stated, my comments and views are way down, and I am losing track of my friends work as well. These previous changed have completely polarized this site. I have been here at Red Bubble one full year now, and would like to make it two. I have put a lot of hard time and effort in building my portfolio on here. It would be a shame if I were to have to find another avenue with which to showcase my work.

  • Jerame * replied

That’s what I’m worried about also, Shay! I haven’t even made it for a year yet, but I’m very proud of my work on here and my accomplishments! People invest a lot in redbubble and to leave is not a small act. But what other option is there?

    Hopefuly, there is another option!

I never wanted any of the changes…and am also on the verge of ending my own site here as well.
The changes make no sense, and were not wanted by the majority…not even given a chance to voice our own preferences. WHY change it if it is NOT broken to begin with? Between upload glitches, not finding work(our own) in the groups….not being able to keep up with watchlist art….none of it makes any sense to me what-so-ever…Just time consumming…frustrating and tiring.

Jerame.. I think if enough people voice their opinion through your petition here, than Red Bubble must simply listen. We aren’t asking for the moon here obviously, and a few I.T. guys may have to work over-time to right it. But if it’s the will of the people, than who are they to deny us a little comfort while we help promote ‘their’ site? I’m really frustrated. And I also agree with Vanessa about the upload glitches and the like. Everything is just a mess, and it’s high time they get it straightened out. I don’t want to leave. I will miss you dearly and a few other people.

I’m not working as hard as I should be anymore. My views, comments and friends are decreasing. What the f* is happening? Im so sad. Im getting pissed too. It’s more of struggle and Im stressing myself out over this. Where is everybody? I have hundreds of people watching me and a very few only comment. To those who are watching and not leaving comments, then I say take me off your watchlist. The energy I feel here is not good and Im feeling discouraged.

  • Jerame * replied

Everyone should either start their own petition or point their friends to this one. I know that so many are feeling bad about this site but not enough are speaking up! We need to get the word out.

...redbubble for me has stopped being a fun experience…it has become a job and I don’t even get paid for the pleasure…I feel that I have been a loyal, avid user of this site…given ( I had no choice) this site the “LION’S SHARE” of any sales I have made and this is what I get in return.
I don’t know where I will go, but I am searching for other artist networking and selling sites…what is the old addage….If it ain’t Broke…don’t fix it…still scratching my head as to why the urgency to change/fix something that was not broke? ...and dumping it on all of us before the bugs were worked out??? Get it together RB,,,your going to lose many, many wonderful artists…

I’m not happy with the way the site has changed either – I assumed it was me being picky and too stupid to use it properly, but I have noticed I am getting fewer views (and I am also looking less often at other peoples’ work) so it can’t just be me. I assume you’re all talking about the new overview page. I have to say I didn’t like it to begin with, but the big plus for me is that I no longer receive 20-30 bmails every day – hooray! I think some improvements could be made however, e.g. get rid of the wasted space so you can see more links per page – on my 15 inch laptop screen I can only see 5 without scrolling. And I do think RB needs to take compatibility more seriously. Fine – introduce a new look, but offer it as an alternative for a while at least to allow people to get used to it. Or allow the layout to be customised so that members choose to see only what’s important to them.

Im certainly not as happy as I was previously, but the biggy for me is the amount of problems with the slowness that seems to be occurring since the change. Over the weekend I ended up giving up in frustration and went back to my old haunting ground for a couple of days and found it almost enjoyable. My thing has always been , why change a good thing?? Dont fix something thats not broken and leave well alone when everyone is a happy camper, that way you get to keep everybody who makes this site what it is, or should that be what it was?

I agree with the above comments. There seems no logical reason for changing to the new system. The old one worked fine. Now my “My Bubble” page seems cluttered with things I dont need and does not display clearly those i do.
The only positive I have seen recently is that when I upload an image, my groups are now in alphabetic order and makes choosing ones relevant to my image easier.
    Other than that, nothing!
I would prefer a stable site (the old one seemed ok) without glitches than this one with its “innovations”!

You know, I was willing to give it a go and try to be up to speed. Unfortunately, I have lost track of a lot of fellow artists work and I hear feedback from others that they have lost track of mine. With all that said, I think some tweaking would help. I like the right side of the page but the left side of the new format leaves me cold. All the burps and downtime has not added to customer satisfaction, that is for sure. I am hoping the Red Bubble Gods are listening to our cries.

I have bmailed RB with similar issues to most of the above – most of this morning I could not even get onto the site! Pages are slow or will not load at all & its not my pc as its the same on my laptop. It’s not just a case of getting used to something new ….I always give things time, but I dont feel this new layout keeps me in touch like the old one did. I cetainly am seeing a drop in visitor numbers & recently missed out on a host of new work from my watchlist…grrr
I think RB has done great work in creating the community, & sadly now the size seems to be turning away that same community.

Things I like with the new system – no more group BMs, not having to see my own replies to comments (I know what I replied), works & favorites of my watchlist. I think that’s all I really like about it.

The old version did need some upgrading, but this is ridiculous. Views, comments are down. It doesn’t have the same love and community feel anymore.

I have an account at deviantart – similar, but with ads unless you pay, and you don’t have control over royalties, and it doesn’t have the same feel as RB. And I’ve never sold anything there, at least here I have sold some work. I do the best with Zazzle in sales.

Steve – we need to migrate away from our current set up – this is a big job and we’ve already been working on it for a couple of months. I think it’s still several months away from reaching any sort of conclusion. The site performance has in general been good for the last couple of weeks – we just had a problem yesterday that threw everything into chaos.

I’m in! I don’t like this new setup at all, I’m missing works on my overview page that people on my watchlist have uploaded, so unless I go to their profiles individually (which is time consuming for me) I don’t see all their works. I also find the new format harder to navigate and have noticed slower page loads as well. I hadn’t been on here much because I had dial up and now that I have cable I am finding that I just don’t want to be on here and be frustrated! Changes are needed :)

I am on board with this…the few postives about the change are far outweighed by the negatives. I miss work from my watchlist…it is a pain to keep going back and back and back…there is nothing convient about it. I have found myself spending less time here and have even started up my old accounts on other sites….I have been waiting but if this stays like it is I am out of here. I understand this is a freesite, but we(the artist) contibute our work and when we sell something RB makes money, so in that end I feel we have some say in this. The last thing an artist wants to do is put the same time and effort into something as easy as commenting and viewing work as it does to create the art in the first place. I so hope the powers at be read this and decide to fix the interface with this…...

I left RB a while ago(I was KRAFTY) but came back for the wildlife-appeal,but I agree that this crappy so called improvement leaves a lot to be desired. The worse thing about it is it looks cheap and nasty compared to before,Rb was going along nicely, then all of a sudden someone gets a bee in their bonnet and whallah..RB is a CHORE and no longer of any interest to me except as a Window to show my work from!
My biggest bugbear is all of my friends have either left or have vanished off the face of the Earth.
It was my own fault for leaving initially because of the price rise for the UK and was making protests about RB ripping us Brits off,but as I said I am just back for the wildlife-appeal until the end of April then I will probably leave again…the site leaves a lot to be desired now and I am even cutting out my pictures from calenders to make a couple of pennies because as far as I’m concerned I now call this place (RIPOFFREDBUBBLE).!

OK there are some bits I prefer, like the groups tab on the right, having direct access to my groups I host and the other groups being in alphabetical order everywhere now! But the main thing I use is the new work from my watchlist/ commenting and replying to comments on my work and that is just a nighmare! I too have noticed how quiet it is on here and the huge drop in views and comments too. I think that modifying this with some of the old system would work. I prefered replies to my comments and comments on my work being separate too. I know that RB have no intention of reverting back to the old system, so perhaps by pointing out via this pettion which bits of really pee us all off, they may look at modifying the system, so that it is less stressful just trying to be social on here!

This journal must already be on the front page of writing as having the most hits or close to it – I bet you that RB have read it – have they the decency to reply. No. What they will be going on is the journal that they sent out telling us of the change 75% of folk who responded to that responded in favour of the new system kinda – yes RB no RB three bags full RB – when they hear the true voice of concern all of us here they sweep it under the carpet – it wont be long and I have my $10 on this that very soon they will delete this journal – happened to me once before.

I’m with the above! Turn back the clock!

It’s has become far more difficult to navigate. Fewer comments, views and faves means less exposure and fewer sales possibilities – forget whatever else surrounds it, SALES is what it’s all about isn’t it! If sales drop, RB’s in far more trouble than any individual artist here..

I’d like to make a couple points that are either not obvious or missed in previous messages. First, a significant portion of the recent changes have little or nothing to do with Red Bubble “staff”. They are changes considered and made by The Guy In Charge. And as such, tempering comments directed to the person who can do whatever he wants to do regardless of input might be the most prudent way to make a point. After all, RB belongs to someone who doesn’t need to listen to anyone like us. LOL!

Second, as Susan Bergstrom pointed out, Red Bubble is still the best option any of us even seen, even if some of the changes seem less than comfortable at best and downright unmanageable at worst.

That said, the new My Bubble hasn’t been my friend in any way I can find. Pulling the mass of group Bmail out of my Inbox was a blessing but forcing it into My Bubble didn’t do me any favours. The options available before were extremely useful and easy to manage. Now I can’t set anything for an individual 15-minute session online without changing my defaults. That’s unwieldy in the extreme when all you’ve got is 15 minutes online during a break at work.

For me, Red Bubble wasn’t a place I came to for fun; I came to promote and sell my art. But once I got here, the social networking with other artists proved to be almost invaluable. My hits have dropped massively, my comments have dropped faster than I ever thought possible, my Bmail is more manageable but many of my artist friends have either lost faith or motivation to remain active, and I haven’t produced a single sale from inside or outside Red Bubble since the change. Hearing the same story so many times tells me I’m not alone thinking any of this.

The hard part is that Red Bubble can die. It’s not up to us to keep it alive and nobody signing any petition has the power or authority to make changes, regardless of how many people complain, leave, or just become inactive. Maybe we can persuade with voicing our feelings but read the comments at the link I made above. I think it will give you a deeper perspective of just where you stand. We artists have clout somewhere but that place may be “over the rainbow” and I don’t know where Toto is right now. He’s never been on my leash…

  • Jerame * replied

    1. I don’t like this setup
    2. Others are showing they don’t like it either
    3. If this doesn’t work, I’m outta here
    4. Someone changed it, so they should know how to change it back
    5. I don’t care who does it, just do it!
    6. We have been just as good for the bubble as the bubble has been for us so why are they treating us like this now??

If that is irrelevant to what you said, I’m sorry.

Yesterday we had bad respond, but it’s new system, and Software Engineers got sum bugs, but today system looks much better. I work in IT and from my point of view there was some bugs, but generally I like new system so much better. Love that I can read all replies and comments so much easier, love the way the separated Group news, rather sending me bmail, which I did not had time to read it, and small images of new and favors making so much scene to me. Now the reason why you not getting so much hits, it’s because there is no more reason to go to everyone image to read “thank you”, I can imagine that traffic is much lighter on the system, plus Small Icons of images give enough info for me to look only works which look interesting to me .

I think we should give a time to new system, before discharging it all

I’m VERY happy to see this !!!!!
I joined RB at the very end of this last August and like so many other people immediately became addicted, and it was an addiction that I was completely happy with.
I’m an old guy and didn’t grow up with computors so one of the things that made RB so appealing was the simplicity of the entire site. I didn’t have to be a computor person to make full use of it. Navigating through to other peoples’ work, reading comments on my work, keeping up with challenges, and most of all communicating with other members was a breeze. I couldn’t wait to get on the site in the morning and was usually going strong while working on my second cup of coffee.
The new format is a cluttered, confusing, cumbersome pain in the ass !!! It seems like RB doesn’t want anyone to use the site except computor nerds like the Simpsons’ Comic Book Guy. If you have the ability to turn out good work, that’s ok, as long as you put it secondary to spending all your time on the computor trying to figure out how to keep up with the RB community.
The really unfortunate thing is, that as Steve Smith said above, and after having a little bit of experience with complaining to RB, I don’t think this will accomplish much. You’d think that since OUR WORK IS THE ONLY PRODUCT REDBUBBLE HAS TO SELL, that they would show us, at least, the common courtesy of making it as easy as possible to supply them, and to give us the very important perc of making the site fun again by going back to the old format.
    I’m not holding my breath

  • Jerame * replied

We have only begun the fight. You voiced your opinion and joined the group while it is still growing- wait til tomorrow! It’s growing phenomenally!!

I think change is difficult and some of the features may take time to get working but Peter has been very open to inputs from all. I suggest you go to the backstage sight and direct your specific issues there as he will read them. But also realize Redbubble is his business, and he needs to make the business work towards his business goals. He does consider the users but there is also a tendency to forget that the model here is more than a social site, it’s a business. I’m sure you as a customer and a supplier are important to the business. I believe many of the new changes have been outsourced and perhaps usability concerns were not considered in the initial design. As people make improvement suggestions they are being considered. I hope you’ll address your suggestion in the forums provided, in the support site, where people can vote on changes, in testing the changes before they get cut over. If we all contribute what we can to this process we can support their Business goals and make something usable for us as well.

The old system was indeed much better than this. But, sadly, the site is free to artists, and the Redbubbler owners are probably angling to offload this site and they are doing what they can to make it in their minds more attractive to some commercial entity to purchase. Its the money game all over again. The same thing has happened to other sites which starts of as friendly, and a place where people of like mind visit each other and feel comfortable. Money and politics; politics and money. It is the driving force here and everywhere else.

    Jerame you have my vote.

Two maybe three changes they made are good, less bmails, the groups sorted in alphabetical order …. damn what was that third one that was good…. can’t remember …lol.

As for the rest it all makes RB cluttered, for example look at the Comments & Replies. First there was a section Comments and a section Replies. Simple and clearly set out. Now it’s all mixed up. Though it might be a good thing to see the text with the Replies I don’t need them with the Comments, I mean when I got a comment I need to go there to answer it!

Besides that the whole layout of the My Bubble page is a mess and doesn’t work pleasant.

Oh well I will have to find out how to spread the word about this Journal!!!!

In the past few days, I’ve tried to leave comments, but there were constant glitches, hang-ups, and dreadful slowness. I really wanted to do my part in reviewing works of art, but the slowness of the operations made it impossible for me to continue. I don’t know if that’s the reason others are lessening their comment-making, but it is one of the main reasons I have slowed down. It’s really disheartening to try to upload the best possible quality photography I’m capable of doing and yet get less and less feedback every day. The community spirit seems to be dying, and it’s just like anything else in a human society. When the support we offer each other wanes, so does enthusiasm and motivation to keep creating. I hope we can find the family atmosphere that once was alive and well here; seems we’re losing touch with each other. I pray things improve for this was a lovely global community at one time. Thank you, Jerame, for trying to infuse some life back into Red Bubble. Bless you for doing that.

I have not been on the site much lately….nothing to do with the changes.

I think there should be more specifics as to what exactly are the changes that people are not liking. I have seen some like some things and other dont like others. Any complaint that goes to RB Admin should be specific.

Being a supervisor for nearly twenty years I welcome complaints or airing of issues. I expect if you do that you follow with a solution.

Whether it be the complaint of the solution, specifics not generalizations should be used when describing things.

I myself do not like seeing a persons comments on my mybubble page. I liked it better when I was notified of a comment and visited the image to see the comments. I am not sure why I liked that better but I did. Regardless, I would not leave a site because of this.

The Filter Activity thinga majiggy through me at first but I have gotten used to it. Again, nothing I would leave a site over.

Other than a couple other Overview tweeks, I have not seen or experienced anything that would drive me away. There are things missing I would like to see but again, nothing to drive me away.

    I would like to see:

    - more text formatting help
    - easier way to catergorize or group your photos
    - auto entry of EXIF info

Maybe I am not seeing the problems others are seeing. That does not mean they dont exist. I hope everyone can get a response from RB that is satisfactory.

I try and remember that this site can be enjoyed without having to pay monthly or annual fees. I do understand that RB sits on our earnings until we sell over $100. I also think the cost-to-retail margins are a bit high but I am still staying here.

I find this site the best ran and easiest to work than many. Grass is always greener is what they say….I think if there is enough concern RB will listen.

    Good luck!

the way things are going..it is all in reverse now..if all my 35 people on my list drop out, multiply that as above…Red Bubble will be gone before July 4th..
I am frustrated to the point where I am at Zazzle.com, IStockphoto.com, JPGphoto.com..and still looking.
I had thought this place was not only for posting my shots for my friends and their friends to comment (good or bad), make some sales, and get Featured…
It has been 3 months since my last sale, until this am, 8 days since my last Feature, and unless I am checking this ALL day long (and night too)..I miss most of my comments, not to mention haw many gazillion posts I have missed…
I am mad and I am not gonna take it any more !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I’ve had just over a year of great fun on RB, meeting new people, seeing fantastic work of all different kinds and learning so much how to improve my own work. And of coursed the thrill of actually selling stuff. Now, in just a couple of weeks, the fun has gone, I’m not getting the comments I used to, not seeing the work of most of the people on my watchlist, losing touch with everyone and finally just losing interest. And WHY? The only one good thing is that my groups are now in alphabetical order and that’s it! Please, please, please RB, restore it all back to how it was!

I’m not on much anymore & havent uploaded any work … what’s the point? I miss my friends and their works the new unfriendly user system RB have started is so frustrating it’s driving me nuts! I have been on here well over a year now and have had success with sales in the past, I don’t expect to sell when no ones looking. All too time consuming running around in ever decreasing circles.

RB I think will suffer when so many people vote on foot by leaving. They had it right .. now it’s wrong. I’m giving them time to change back to a user friendly site with a growing enthusiastic artist community. No changes & I’ll take my art elsewhere.

Good luck Jerame & thanks for the petition & platform :D

Sadly there were a lot of people who wanted changes and i always say becareful of what you wish for you might just get it. I am not as happy witht the new system but its free and i am easy i say it is up to them what they do, sites can be tricky to make the changes to and keep them working properly and i am proud to be a part of RB and i will just keep going on and i am sorry but it wasnt that long ago eveyone was complaining about changes needed to be made. Rb made them and now people complaign. It sad, i dont get to comment much only because i am busy 5 kids and a wife back at school. I actually like the new set up it’s different and easy to control, i am all for change. I like the idea that the groups i host are now in a easy to load fashion which really saves on scrolling throughout my groups or even having to keep going into my own profile to find the link.

But i also do agree that my comments and views have lowered and i am not sure why that is or if it is just the fact some people have given up chasing so many of their watchlist and adding their comments.

  • Jerame * replied

Katagram – a lot of people are posting at once, so putting the # in will only confuse things. Re the change – I can’t understand why if something doesn’t work it will take months to fix! Isn’t the right way to keep what worked before and reinstall that? I do that for my site. Peter Hill – so many words these days are joined – annoying and an insult. You’re right about the Gen Y! Also – on reading the posts here is the work from my watchlists now missing? Doesn’t seem so to me. I also haven’t lost any people in my watchlist. I haven’t uploaded any pics since the change though so will be interesting to see if I have problems once I start that again.

Find the new system is much more time consuming and so much slower. Click, click, click for every action that used to be so simple. Agree with many others, if it’s not broken, why fix it? Seems someone at RB felt they had to change for changes sake. A bit of consultation with the members wouldn’t have gone amiss before just deciding to launch this donkey. Thought RB was about the members. Is there some other reason for the new format? Is it the old members are sold out – bring in new business mentality? Always thought RB was a profit generating vehicle for someone out there, the members are secondary. My thoughts on this haven’t changed.

Seems to be taking longer to load and edit…kept getting error yesterday when editing a journal…was sooooo slow nearly gave up. Don’t like the scrolling down to find out where you left off.. more time consuming and confusing.

Like being notified of a bubblemail. Do like the tick that shows you have commented and do like less mails cluttering up the inbox. Do like the groups in alphabetical order. So there are pluses and minuses.

I would like to see that afterall is said and done, more was said than done! Because if anthing will happen is that we all will experience, is more change. the catch however in hopes that the changes made, make you happy, if not! now you become of the other group that is again dissatisfied. the key perhaps is a more defined way of listing prefered options, and the majority rules, if that there is unison to the desired change, one thing I read for an example is that of I don’t like change, that’s valid enough! probably it is always the favorite! the putting of numbers with this blog of messages, unless it really is an indication of the many disatisfied, and if you should get what you desire, chances are that the other number of unheard members is larger and they may organize the next change request ! ironic isn’t it, the question is just how many of these polls are out there going on, and who is the modorator of that group, how long have they been around, and then of course is influence a factor! After all was said and done all will not all be happy, so what changed! 202

Hi Jerame, I am new here at Red Bubble…just since February. When I first joined it seemed alot easier to navigate. I liked getting the bubblemail to let me know what was going on. When it’s on the main page there is only a couple of things to see. I can’t figure out how to find out what is going on in my groups. And there is all that empty space at the bottom right side that it could go in. I don’t like that there are no pages numbered. If you get busy with real life and miss a few days…you can’t just find the page you left off at and catch up. And when you keep trying to start from the beginning and “see more activity” it only lets you go so far…so you miss comments that people gave. I have found them later when I get a new comment on one of my pictures. There will be 3 or 4 there that I didn’t know I got….so I feel like I have snubbed the people who left comments by not replying right away. Sometimes I don’t find them for a week. I liked the old way much better, It was easier and more fun. Ginny

  • betha

    betha

I think the old system had some good points, however the new one has some good points too, Maybe the best of both would be a better option.

    New Set up – POSITIVE
    1. I like the pre-view of the comments and replies, certainly saves going back and forward to view these responses. This would bring views down, but I do not tend to reply as I would rather spend time looking and commenting on work that people have put up, and I often choose those that have comment on my work so I get to see new things. I personally had moved replies to not show on the old system, as 90% were simply Thank you. Now if someone replies with maybe an answer or some further info on the image, I can see this.

    2. I love the “Work and Favourites from my Watch List” This is a great way to see what people I watch are commenting on, 9 times out of 10 it is work I also like and has exposed work to like minded people(for want of better words)

New Set Up – NOT SO SURE
    1. Group bubblemails, I am finding I am not reading these at all now, with the list only showing 3 or 4 I might look at these, but rarely, it is good not to be in bubblemails, but I am just not seeing them all.
    2. The filter list, while this is OK, it is more clicks than before, but as I have more in my activity, use it less.

    New system – NEGATIVE
    1. See more Activity, this is where it sucks, see more, view older and then come back to the first page only, this is just awful. This would bring views down!! I will only look at so many older things with this happening, and the more people one watches and the more things I add from the filter, the less I will see. So sorry to all those people that I am missing work, I just do not have the time, to keep pressing See more activity and start again. To me this is the single biggest flaw, and is a real issue.

On another note, I am so so so glad the Groups are in alphabetically order, this makes life so much better!!!

I thought the new system wasn’t bad to start with, but definately having second thoughts now. It has been so slow lately. At times you don’t know if work or comments have loaded, also cannot go back anymore than 12 hours to view work/comments, so if your ofline for more than 12 hours you miss any and all beyond that, which in turn makes others think your ignoring them, so in turn you loose faith and friendship with them, and them with you. Once you have gone past the first page you are either put right back to the first page or have to waist time opening another tab all the time. I would love to see the old system revamped

I’m here to ‘sign’ this too – I have only been here less than 3 months, but the changes have impacted HUGELY on what was happening here for me! I thought it was ‘just me and my work’ that was suddenly hardly getting noticed – now I read here that SO MANY people’s views and comments have dropped WAY DOWN!!!!! The way to sales is EXPOSURE – these changes have DECREASED that!!! Lots of new works from my watchlist don’t show up on my overview – how many of mine don’t show up for them?
There are times I can’t load a page at all and my computer tells me it is because the ‘server is too busy’ – RB – YOUR system can’t handle the site now!!!
I spend so much time and effort just trying to make my way through the glitches in the order of the columns – sometimes get the same one coming up 3-4 times… and then it gets to the point where it just won’t let me open any more of the ‘history’ at all, even though I haven’t made it back yet to what was happening when I was last ‘here’! – and scrolling backwards and forwards trying to work out where the stupid ‘back’ button has ended me up – that I have managed to get to actually visit and browse a group ONCE ONLY since this whole change happened!!!!
So yes! Groups – what groups????? It’s like there’s no point to them any more!
How much of RB’s profit came from MEMBERS buying other members’ stuff? Well, with this new system – I don’t get to see enough of other members’ work to find anything I might want to buy!
I HATE THIS NEW SYSTEM!!! It makes what used to be a fun, co-operative community – where I would be happy to support both artists and RB with the (very) little money I have as I was getting a great return of support and encouragement for MY work in return for what I put in into just plain HARD WORK!
    NOT a good return!

  • Lynn Bauer

I think the “Powers to Be” at RB need to read this petition and work on finding a way to merge the best of the old and the new systems. Selling products is important… but, obviously, staying connected to our community is even more important to most of us (since not too many of us actually have enough sales that we will ever see any $$$$$ from it!) I hope the voice of many here has some impact! I’ve already backed off of a site that I truly enjoyed for many years because they got too big for their britches & lost the close-knit community that they had started with. Hope it doesn’t happen here!!

Please find another more effective and user friendly way of making the changes you feel you need otherwise it would appear that the artists you are so dependent on for your income will have deserted you. I left one of the net’s largest photo sharing sites and came to RB largely because of the negative impact certain company actions were having. After 15 months I regard RB as by far my favourite site on the web. PLEASE, listen to your members, think through your proposals before instituting them and give consideration to forming a steering – or advisory – committee of some of our more influential members. Improvement is a good thing, change is not necessarily an improvement and in this case we have change but not improvement; instead we have chaos.

I join you in this, the number of images that are being uploaded by those I watch is way down. The new format puts a bunch of people I don’t even know posting or commenting on forums that I am not interested in and often have not the least idea what they are referring to. As a host I posted a group notice to the members and asked for feedback, not one person has replied, they are not reading all the stuff that is coming up, there is just too much that people are not interested in now. The format does not work very well at all, I have to open every post in a new tab to be able to keep up with what I want to look at and avoid what I don’t. If I am on page three and hit the back button it goes back to page three but several posts up the page so that I have to scroll down to find where I was when I went to comment. In addition in the old format I could go to any page and find something that I had viewed several days ago and then refer it to someone else who was interested in viewing it. We had page numbers, now we have to scroll page by page and it is just not worth it.

I joined RB last Nov/2009 because I heard it was the best photo site around…. I was just getting quite comfortable, and what do they do…change things which most members here are not in favor of…I preferred the old system, as it was so user friendly....RULE of Thumb, when something works, leave it alone...I left one of the internet’s largest photo sharing sites because of negativity and it became apparent they would not listen to the membership. After 6 months I regard RB as by far my favourite site on the web. PLEASE, listen to your members…I amongst many love the way it was.

The thing that interests me most about the change to the the My Bubble page, is that it’s still being talked about nearly two weeks after it’s been implemented.

If I was in RB’s shoes, I’d be worried about that.

Please RB put things back the way they where our long time members are leaving some of our best artist are leaving.
Please listen to your members on this one.

So I’ve just read every comment here. It’s very very hard for me to make sense of most of the feedback because I’m not being told what was good about the old system and bad about the new system. What’s broken about the new layout?

The site performance problems are a separate issue – and it’s terrible that they have occurred. I want to take us to a system that doesn’t have these problems and we’re on the path towards a more stable system. Unfortunately we made some bad technical decisions early on (two years ago) that we’re paying for now.

What are the major changes with the new overview screen:

You can watch forum threads you interested in. Is this a good or bad thing?
The display of the activity events has been tidied up – there’s less visual clutter around an event. Is this a good or bad thing.
The filter has been hidden under a link to reduce the space it takes up on a page – is this a good or bad thing.
There is a panel for letting people know about new on RedBubble – is this a good or bad thing.
The ‘see more activity’ is not working for everyone – so we’re going to change to pagination today.
The group news panel has resulted in less group communication so we’re going to change this (we’re working on this now). But was it wrong to remove them from BubbleMail? We received a lot of negative feedback about group news being included in BubbleMail.

We do listen. There was consultation with members of RedBubble on these changes. We can’t please everyone but we do listen. But in listening we need your help. Just saying that things are broken doesn’t help much … and we must continuously strive to improve RedBubble. The day we become too afraid to make changes will be a very bad day for RedBubble. If sometime changes take us a ‘step backwards’ then I think that’s a price I’m willing to pay – providing that we then take two step forwards later – because the alternative is stagnation and decline.

  • peter

    peterworks here

On a separate note – please don’t use the writing area of the site for these sorts of posts – the writing area of the site is intended for creative writing (poetry, short stories). How would you feel if you’re a poet on RedBubble and the most popular piece of writing on RedBubble is this post? We designed journals for this sort of communication.

  • Jerame * replied

I didn’t realize this until other people had pointed it out to me and this was already full on with responses.

I apologize, but the intent to for RB to understand that this has stopped being a fun site. We’ve seen a decrease in views and comments and it’s hard to keep up with our watchlist. If numbers like that drop, what’s the point of being here? It becomes less important.

You will lose great artists quickly. Great artists who have invested a great deal into this site!

Fix that and we won’t be an upset bunch!

  • peter

    peterworks here

There has been a noticeable flattening of activity on RedBubble – it’s hard to work out what’s caused this. My current thinking is that it’s been caused by site performance problems – as the flattening started happening at the end of January – when we first started having the performance problems and well before the updates to MyBubble.

Peter, with all due respect, the views and comments did not decline until this recent change in format. I have a lot of people here to back me on that. And now we are all paying for it. Granted it visually looks nice, but everything is a mess with this activity issue. For a lot of us, or views and comments have dropped by an average of 90%. That is horrible and people are losing the motivation, not just to log in here, but to go out and do what they love most, be it painting, shooting, or writing. That is a sad thing.

    @ Peter…

after reading through some of the comments here, and things others have said, I’m coming to some conclusions myself…it is a combination of the following things…

    1. the economy
    2. after christmas slump
    3. the site problems which created doubles and enormous frustration amongst members
(why? we are time poor….the whole world is…...we want it faster and we want it now, sadly
and unfortunately for RB and other businesses on the internet….the time and download
factor, coupled with ease and usability, are major factors in business thriving or not)....it
was extremely unfortunate that RB reached full capacity when it did….then there were those
other outages around bushfire time…. at the time, i believed a lot of this could have been
assuaged through effective communicative techniques, such as having an area like twitter do
that you can click on a link to find out why the site has an outage quickly and just know to go
about doing other things until the problem has been rectified….some of the outrage and
frustration is just occurring as we sit here waiting and waiting for an upload to work, and then
after half an hour it times out…. we have to figure out ourselves, is this RB or is this my
server down….a lot of lot of times, it has been RB down…as i’ve gone finally to check on other
    emails etc…..
    4. Too much change, too many times, too quickly can amount to a disastrous effect, a little like
what’s occuring now….. it would be a great time to offer reassurance now…..to offer more
communication in line with the amount of feedback you are receiving from members, to
balance that out with more communication….. there is a sense of lostness, a sense of us
being without a visible head….you are that head, the one we look to….whether you like it or not
we do want someone to lead the way…....we can still be partners of course…..but we need to
be reassured there’s a captain and someone steering this ship….. even if it is a bubble…..
    5. I believe you are going about things the right way, eliciting feedback and listening to others…
you are definately on the right track, i was once not so supportive of you perhaps, but you’ve
grown on me a lot…...we can get through this….we just have to try …... and realise that this will
    take time.
    6. I don’t know, but i think that as a community, we are evolving and changing…..and it could go
either way….or a myriad of ways…...this is the perfect time to be in strong communication with
us…...letting us know your vision and your plans for Red Bubble….if we are partners, we need
    more information

I believe that the new site changes have created a general feeling of disorientation among members, it’s a general thing…hard to describe or put one’s finger on…..and in general, i think a certain amount of flak was inevitable….i think everyone would have expected that. but perhaps all the problems we had before, combined with the new changes have all been a bit much for some…...i know quite a few friends who no longer log in, or very rarely, i really miss them…...and i’ve felt a bit that way too you know…but i see red bubble as a major player in my life, and i don’t want to let go….it’s a wonderful wonderful thing…..i luv it, I admire you and the admin….and I’m not brown nosing either…..just for those of you that may think so….i’ve come a long way with how i feel…..i had issues with lots of people here…..i’m working on ironing it all out…...if we all try a bit harder, we may just get there..

Try going back to each one on 15 pages back and try to cope NO WAY one page is hard enough. Peter, you’re asking for specifics and once more that is overcomplicating the issue. Simply go back to the old format and ALL OF THE ABOVE WILL BE SOLVED !!!!.
In the old format all activity pertaining to me was automatically displayed as soon as I entered my page. I didn’t have to click a button to see who that I’m watching has added new work, and another button to read comments and replies on my work, and another button to see if my work has been accepted into a group, and another button to see what challenges were going on, and another button to see who was featured in a group, and another button to see wether one of my pieces was featured in a group. And if I commented on someone’s work or replied to a comment on my work and hit the back button it took me back to where I left off…not back to the beginning forcing me to slog my way through several pages every time to try to find where I was, and if I did get lost, at least there were page numbers to help.
Also I didn’t notice ANY “flattening of activity” before the change. There were some glitches, there are always going to be some glitches, the fall-off in activity is a direct result of the members not wanting to have to navigate thier way through all the different areas. It’s one thing for admin to spend the kind of computor time that takes, it’s your function; my function is to take pictures and try to sell them, and every minute I spend trying to find my way through the new RB is a minute I lose comming up with new product for you to sell. I’m fully aware that my work isn’t much of a money-maker for you; my sales aren’t going to make or break RB, but again I have to ask, shouldn’t you be making things as simple as possible for your suppliers instead of difficult ?

I left RB a while ago(I was KRAFTY) but came back for the wildlife-appeal,but I agree that this crappy so called improvement leaves a lot to be desired. The worse thing about it is it looks cheap and nasty compared to before,Rb was going along nicely, then all of a sudden someone gets a bee in their bonnet and whallah..RB is a CHORE and no longer of any interest to me except as a Window to show my work from!
My biggest bugbear is all of my friends have either left or have vanished off the face of the Earth.
The sheer fact that most of the members here state that that comments and sales are down just makes me realise that RB have made a cock-up,and never listened to the people who have been here for a while. like me,almost 2 years if you don’t include my cancelling my account
It was my own fault for leaving initially because of the price rise for the UK and was making protests about RB ripping us Brits off,and This is still a real problem and a Big Issue IMHO.but as I said I am just back for the wildlife-appeal until the end of April then I will probably leave again…the site leaves a lot to be desired now and I am even cutting out my pictures from calenders to make a couple of pennies because as far as I’m concerned I now call this place (RIPOFFREDBUBBLE).!
Think I will take my chances elsewhere in the very near future, because this is so bloody boring now,and as for the “Images you may have missed”,who cares?

The base price for UK artists is the same as for anybody else as far as I know. The fact that the UK pound took a dump and that RB collects VAT for European sales can’t be blamed on RB.

The on ly thing good about the activity page is that you can go straight to the groups . Everything else is just awful.
I don’t like the fact that when I send messages out from my groups they are not getting read because people have lost interest in the activity page and are just not reading anything. The things we might have missed is a waste of space as it doesn’t just show people on your watchlist .

ive got to agree with mickspixphotos above, just go back to the old format and all the problems will be solved.

As a host i put in the group news a message response nil. put up a reminder response nil, if the group bubblemails were still there this would not happen, ive now handed over the reigns of one group and my co hosts handed over to as its very discouraging getting zero response.

iI loved the community spirit but its gone, our wales group loved organising meets, it is ok to get messages to our regular attenders but to newer members it was so easy to let them know ofevents via bubblemail, now sadly I can see it will only be the normal members attending these meets and we can continue that with or without redbubble so i can see these groups that are thriving fall apart as im totally loosing interest

there are some good features with the new My Bubble, but the bad outweigh the good. If you are a host you have lost all contact with your members. A minority complained about bubblemails , but the removal of the group hosts communication and other means of communication has taken the activity out of the site. I host 8 groups and its frustrating not knowing if members are seeing any communications being sent out.

One of the best things about RB is listening to the members, please listen to these cries,

Wow, lots of people are dissatisfied! I thought it was just me. I don’t like the new setup at all and had already written to Redbubble about the Bubblemail problems I thought I was having. They haven’t even replied. Also, I don’t get nearly the number of comments as I used to get. I am really wondering why Redbubble found it necessary to make such sweeping changes. Do they just need something to do?? They could try helping us promote and sell our photos in a better fashion. I am no pro but I haven’t sold one thing. I would like to be able to email my bubble page to various contacts but I can’t seem to figure out how to do it. I can email from each individual photo, but I want to be able to send the whole “my bubble” page. Also, I need more specific instruction on how to format the text I put with each photo. I could go on and on, but I just want Redbubble to remember that without us, “their customers” there is no Redbubble. I am not quite ready to bale just yet, but I used to be very active on Webshots and deserted them pretty much after it was bought by American Greetings and the commercialization of the site just exploded. I found that very annoying. I like the pure aspect of Redbubble and I hope Redbubble will “keep it simple…”!!! Cheers, Carol Clifford

I have to say I am both surprised and disappointed that Redbubble does not listen to it’s member’s views as to how THEY want THEIR site layed out. The nonsense over the new Bubblemail system was ridiculous and it still han’t been sorted. I threatened to leave Redbubble over that and the bottom line is I have 615 unread Bubblemails that I refuse to read or delete as it takes up too much time and energy. Then they changed the Mybubble page till it was unrecogniseable, now they have changed the entire site. This most recent change quite frankly makes the site and all the work on it look amateurish, which is hugely disappointing for all the members who have worked so hard to get their work on here in the first place. And, yes, my figures of views, comments, favouritings and sales have all decreased drammatically. It is hugely unfortunate that Redbubble doesn’t listen to the views of its members, and simply changes the site at will, often for the worse, not better, and for no apparent reason. It then simply ignores it’s member’s wishes to go back to how it was before. I said before that I would leave Redbubble if they made one more pointless change, and I stand by that threat. I have already been selling my work with far more success on my own website, www.matthewrogersillustration.co.uk, and I will give Redbubble 14 days to put the site back to how it was before, otherwise I’m gone. Simple as that.
