When September Comes

I want to draw a rainbow
in the evening sky
with the letters of your
name. I want to paint
our front door
purple because
there isn’t enough
of it in our world. I
want to sing halleluiahs
against the back
of your neck
so you can experience
the feathery weight
of words meant only for you.

And when September
finally comes,
I would like to bite
into the fruit of our labor
and rest, even if only for a spell.
