Photographing a wedding tomorrow... by Jenny Ryan

Posted on September 25, 2010

My friend is flying me to CO from WA to photograph her wedding. I’m super nervous as this will only be my 2nd wedding. I’m crazy nervous but super excited and 60% confident. I’ll be reading the 2 wedding photography books I bought a while ago again and writing down ideas etc.. if you have ANY advise you’re willing to share I’ll gladly take it.

I have a Nikon D80 and a SB900 flash. Still learning the flash but I’m catching on quick so that’s good.

Anyway wanted to share my news! I’m excited!

I’m sure you’ll do a fantastic job! My advice is you’ve got the talent so you just need to relax, clear your mind and go for it!!!! Ohh,, and take lots and lots of photos,, and I always ask the couple if there are any specific ones they want (or with certain people) and that always gets a new set of ideas flowing… Good luck! ohh,, and please share once you’ve finished processing the pikkies ;o)

Good luck I’m sure you’ll be fine….. I’m sympathising as I have been asked to do a wedding in January which will be my first official gig! Very nervous about that… so if you have any words of wisdom to impart I’m all ears…. lol! : ))

Hi Jenny….I’m no wedding pro but I’m hoping you’re not the only one taking the photos as it would be great to capture the other things going around. The ones that were not the centre of attention but fun to capture. The images that when the couple see afterwards will make them say “Wow, we didn’t realise that was going on.”
This was one of the tips that stuck to me after watching a documentary about wedding photography. You probably know it but I thought Id share it anyway.
Also it’s handy not to be alone as it can get really tiring as well.
Have fun & all the best!
