Quick study for a possible painting… or not?!

The purpose was to explore some feelings I had surrounding an event from several years ago. Art can be so therapeutic…… : )

At the time, few people knew what was happening for me. The greater majority saw me as the girl who is always happy and full of energy… on the inside I was far from that! I am however, forever grateful for a natural propensity for optimism.

I’m not sure I feel the need to continue on to the painting…. maybe… or maybe this was enough…

OMG! JEN! You are SO talented! This is absolutely fantastic. So very emotional and conveys the sense of sadness so perfectly. You could do this as a painting, but for me, the impact of charcoal is far more powerful. Brilliant, just brilliant… xoxox

  • Thanks Marg…. I wasn’t sure I wanted to share… but I’m happy I have! I tend to agree with you re: charcoal vs painting…. I’ve wondered how it would feel to delve into those feelings again and reveal them in an artwork… I’m glad I’ve finally done it and I think that’s enough for now….. many hugs…. : )) xo

The title and the expression in those eyes are so strong – I don’t know but if you paint this then it will be different again (like starting over) and maybe that’s something to explore as well. This is very brave and holds a lot of meaning for any one of us who have had a hard time at some stage. Great work Jen. Thanks.

  • Thanks heaps Julie-Ann… I always appreciate your thoughtful comments. I think you are right… a painting would be different and possibly like starting over…. maybe I will explore that at another time… but for now I think this was enough…. : ))

normally I like to add a few words of cescription but in this intance think they would fall short and have lost their need- as the work itself far exceeds any verbal attempt (any attempt would just roll down the hill again)- it is its own description- really wonderful and penetrating work- now who should be doing faces?

  • I confess… the urge to draw a face was overwhelming…lol! Thanks Fred… I truly appreciate your words… : ))

This is wonderful Jenny, there is so much emotion in the eyes and face. Art is very therapeutic indeed… glad to hear doing this helped you, to maybe give closure to that time in your life. ;o))

  • Thanks Tatum… I think it has… Art is a good way to get things out sometimes. I hesitated to share this one… but I’m glad I did now… : ))

Oh WOW Jenny…you paint and draw as well? Superb…a great drawing with a lot of emotion…

  • Thanks Varry… Yes, I paint and draw… : )) I love photography and it keeps me sane when I don’t get time to paint or draw… but painting and drawing are my first love…. : ))

It’s a lovely quick study. Don;t know if you can improve on it in a painting. It’s so life-like. Barb

  • Thank you Barbara… I’m beginning to agree with you. I’ll probably leave it as it is…. my hubby wants me to do a ‘happy’ drawing now because he doesn’t like this one… too sad… : (
