This is one image from a year long project which involved me walking through many rear access roads in Chessington and Hook in Surrey, UK. Looking for beauty in the neglected and hidden parts of people’s properties and at the rear of their outbuildings brought many beautiful surprises, this being one of them.
The time I invested in this project influenced the painting directions which followed, influencing my palette and my interest in silicate mineral paint, among other things. In the acrylic paintings which followed, an interest in texture and colour, and different surfaces became more important than the subject matter itself, at least in the initial stages of painting.
This image is a photographic one!
