Art Interpretations - My response to "No Love No Hate" Mike Marshall

Posted 8 months ago

Having recently been to see a lovely exhibition “No Love No Hate” by Mike Marshall at the Stanley Picker Gallery in Kingston, it set me thinking, and inspired me to chitter chatter for a while.

I do enjoy hearing an artist talk about their work, as it does offer insights into different ways of interpreting and understanding the piece which is presented to a recipient in a gallery setting….

There's not enough time, or is there?

Posted 9 months ago

It has always seemed a tragedy to me, that the older you get, the quicker time seems to go by. Is it unfair? Maybe that is not the right expression, but while wrinkles develop, flesh sags, and feet grow tired more quickly, we want to achieve and do more, (well, I speak for myself). Everything becomes more urgent as it dawns on us more clearly, that life does not go on forever.

I know …

Liquid Amber

She peered into the pool. It was small and perfectly round. The glassy water surface was still, with no movement. Her face looked back at her; disappointed. But then, suddenly, from the deepest darkest bottom (where ever that was), a blob of colour, about the size of a marble, grew and grew and grew; becoming clearer with each second that passed by. It appeared to be spiralling upward; grow…

Branches

I’ve seen many winters come around
But never before have you drawn upon my mind
In pencil lines
That cling to forms of man
And move through motions
And movement
Stretching
In joyful wonder.

I’m finding such meaning
In each thread and vein of time;
A moment, not kept, but
Released
And
A conviction of sight
Beyond the border of my mind.

You
Have touched the core of my soul ...

Reflecting

Posted about 1 year ago

Calm reflecting
Of eternal brightness
Hold me still
And reaching high
A moment of worship
In place of silence
A new kind of life
From heaven’s cry.

Is this the end
Or just the beginning?
Who brought me here
Will take me away
In death I died
In life I live
And now
Reflecting
Here I lie.

Silver Spider (written about my son playing with a piece of kitchen foil)

Posted about 1 year ago

It is silver!
Sparks of wonder flying
In each frenzied look.
And hoping
To hold it in his hands…...
The glitter creature!
It’s limbs spread out
In web-like excitement!
And now, to meet
The star-like hand…....
in eagerness, grasping.
And in one, sad, moment
Squashed.
The silver foil
Squashed in one, tight, knot of disappointment.
Then dropped, and left
For other wonders.

Pick me up
From the pool
And rescue me
From the depths and
Heights of the skies.

Place me
In your hand
And treasure me
Then return me
To my resting
Place.

mm, a journey of a journal I think!

This is a nice feature of this site now, is it not!!!?? Well, it is nice to pop a bit more stuff up on the site, and how I do hope some of it gets sold. As time goes by, I realise more and more that the world is full of so many wonderfully talented people, and this is such a great thing! If we are in a position to produce art, then we are so, so, lucky…. indeed. Some people can barely sur…
