Missy, a chestnut Miniature Pony, caring for her new born filly foal.
Many foals are born during the night, but this one arrived in the late afternoon/early evening and I was priviledged to be present to not only witness, but also photograph the ever new miracle of the birth of a beautiful foal.
I was actually on my way, that day, to photograph the young Kookaburras in the late afternoon light, when I noticed Missy lying down, about to give birth. I forgot the Kookaburras and spent the next couple of hours photographing the whole birth process, the mare cleaning her foal, the foal’s struggles to get to her feet and stay on them and eventually, her first drink.
