An abandoned home on a farming property, next to a vineyard, situated north of Williamstown in the Barossa Valley, South Australia.

This home would have been built 150 to 200 years ago when the land was first settled in this area and farmers were allocated a small block each. However, in subsequent years it became obvious that small properties were not viable and many homes were abandoned as farms were combined to make larger, more profitable properties.

Camera: Canon EOS 350D with Canon EFS 17-85mm lens.

I like this shot. Word “bailout” comes to mind.

  • Thanks laminarwind. It’s a pretty setting but I felt a sadness about it too.

    Beautiful capture! Great find!!! :D

  • Thanks Evita. :-) It’s not far from where I live, so I see it often. This year it has grape vines all around it, which rather spoils it in my opinion but I guess the owners need to put all their land to good use.

Hi Jenny, congratulations on your feature! I’m sure I know this place – we used to live at Moculta some years ago and have a long history with the Valley. Lovely capture of this sadly deteriorating old place!

  • Thanks very much for your comments Chris.:-) The old house is situated on the West side of the road from Williamstown to Sandy Creek. I took this photo several years ago, and sadly the old place looks more derelict every year. It is now completely surrounded by vines.
