Edward - A Blenheim Cavalier King Charles Spaniel

Edward, a Blenheim Cavalier King Charles Spaniel.

Edward died suddenly and unexpectedly just before Christmas (after I had uploaded this photo) and I miss him every day. I am lucky to have two of his children and a grandchild, but, much as I love them, they don’t fill his paw prints in my heart. He was such a gentle, loving dog. He loved eating bananas so everytime I had a banana he had to have the last piece!

As a young dog Edward was very successful in the show ring, but an accident when he was 12 months old put paid to his promising show career. However, he didn’t need ribbons or awards to prove to me that he was one very special dog.

Much as I miss Edward, I still know that I was the lucky one, to have been the human who shared his life.

We have a Cavy also…...........his name is Maurice, makes me laugh out loud everyday.

  • Jenny Brice replied

They are great dogs to live with – make life worth while, especially on down days. :-)

He is gorgeous, I guess he isn’t nutured (spelling?) his coat still looks lovely, Boot’s coat went horrid and curly when he had you know what chopped off and he now gets fat easily!

  • Jenny Brice replied

Thanks Squealia. He is castrated (easier to spell!!) now, but it wasn’t all that long ago because I did use him (sparingly) as a stud dog and he produced some lovely puppies (Tansy, the Tricolour is one of them). I am hoping his coat will stay nice as it has always been very easy to care for but I know a lot of them go quite cotton-wooly and it is easier and more comfortable for them to have them clipped.

Oh, so sorry to hear about Edward. We have a blenheim Cavalier as well. We love her dearly. They have such cute faces, makes it pretty hard to get mad at them! Dogs become like members of the family, and just as we could never replace a family member, so it is with dogs as well. Very cute calendar!

  • Jenny Brice replied

Thanks so much for your comments Nanagahma. Yes, it is hard to get mad at Cavaliers – and don’t they know it!! They do become family members and it is very hard to part with them. Give your little girl a cuddle from me. :-)

So sad, he’s such a gorgeous dog, would be devastated if my cav died , beautiful shot !!

  • Jenny Brice replied

Thanks very much for commenting Globalphotos and for adding Edward to your favourites.:-)

Yes it is devastating to lose them, but only because they give so much during their short lives. If they hadn’t been so special and such an integral part of our lives we wouldn’t miss them so badly. Things have a way of balancing out. Great joy is balanced by great sorrow.
