A Garden Visitor

This fox has been coming into the garden every day recently. It usually curls up in a particular corner and goes to sleep when my dog isn’t roaming the yard. On this occasion, I sat behind the gate (about 10 feet from the fox), hoping for a decent picture. I managed to take this just before Harpur lunged at the gate and scared the fox away. I think Harpur’s just jealous because I keep feeding the fox his biscuits! :-)

    Hey Jen,

This is an amazing shot and lucky for you that you have this unique opportunity to actually feel the energy of such a close encounter.

Great shot and love the suspcious look!!

  • Jennifer Woodward replied

Thanks – yes, it did feel pretty amazing being so close. We were eye to eye most of the time. The fox settled and curled up to go to sleep at one stage, but never closed its eyes for long. I might gradually try and get beyond the gate. See if I can get even closer! :-)

Let us know what happens when that happens. Hope the clicking of the camera does not make him edgy. Animals are by instinct alert and aware ….... but compassion, kindness above all love for nature breaks down barriers within oneself…. we become better people.

    Great going here…

    ~Ari

  • Jennifer Woodward replied

Yes, I will… I’m looking through the window out on to the garden, and I can’t see him today. I’ll take some food out in a bit, see if he comes to investigate. I’m saying ‘he’ but I’ve no idea if it’s a male or female! :-)

very well done the wee thing must have had great trust in you

  • Jennifer Woodward replied

Yes, the fox was a but jumpy, but I stayed pretty still – it’s the sudden movements they don’t like – my dog lunging at the gate for example!! :-)

  • Jennifer Woodward replied

Thanks, Jamie! I’d love to take one of him napping, but he curls up behind branches that obscure the view… I suppose I could get the pruners out and see if I can cut them back a bit… I’ll give it a go! :-)

  • Jennifer Woodward

    Jennifer Woodward

OMG! That would be so amazing!! I might have to look into when tthe mating season is… unless you know? Where did Daisy the hedgehog come from? I adore that image!! :-)

  • Leena Hedman

    Leena Hedman

I believe foxes are busy at this time of year, but I might be wrong. Daisy Mae came from a brainfart I had in a pet store! LoL!! She has been us for 4 yrs, and is a nice addition to our “zoo”.

  • Jennifer Woodward replied

Well she’s lovely. Our zoo consists of 4 dogs and 4 cats… and then there’s Fred or (hopefully) Freda… oh, and the mice in the green house and the squirrels!!

Just checked out the season for foxiness and it’s Jan – Feb, so you might be right! Oh I do hope so!!! :-)

  • Leena Hedman

    Leena Hedman

Her face is kind of feminine, don’t you think?
You are ahead of me; we have only 4 cats, Daisy, a beardie, fish and hermits (at the moment.)We have had lovebirds and opossums, an an occasional squirrel too. We also foster dogs every year from our local shelter and pet-sit for our neighbors. Now that I see this in writing, I think I am a little crazy…LoL!!!

  • Jennifer Woodward replied

Ha ha! at crazy! No, not at all. I can’t take responsibility for all the animals, only Harpur the dog, is actually mine, but when I do get my own place, I’m sure it will be a lively one!!

I see what you mean about the face, it does look rather feminine. I’ll let you know if I see any pups! Better go leave so food out! :-)
