Autumn
It’s been a while since I took any landscape shots, and I didn’t want to miss out on the beauty of Autumn, so I ventured out (in the freezing cold) with my dog, Harpur at my heels, and took this. Hope you like! :-)

akuzi
i don’t like – it’s obviously photoshopped.
Jennifer Woodward replied
I always use photoshop for editing, and I always state each work has been edited. I realise that some people prefer work straight from the camera, but that’s not what I’m about – we each have our own tastes. Post production is a skill and an artform in itself and I really enjoy that side of things. There is actually only a small amout of editing on this particular shot. I enhanced the colours and added a small amount of gaussian blur.
I can appreciate people not liking a work because of excessive editing, problems with composition, framing, exposure, etc., and part of what makes redbubble so fantastic is that if requested, our fellow redbubblers can offer some of the best constructive critique, usually via bubblemail, unless otherwise stated by the artist.
When you leave comments on peoples work, please also bear in mind that most redbubble members’ work is for sale. I wouldn’t display my work in a gallery with your comment at the side of it, so why would I want it here? If you don’t like something, isn’t it better just to move on to something you do? Unless you have anything constructive to offer that is?
Jennifer Woodward replied
Thank you for your apology akuzi, I really appreciate it. We’ll draw a line under it now and move on :-)
midnightowl
I love it, it looks very dramatic.

this is stunning work ~ I was instantly drawn in ~ so glad it was featured by RB ~ obviously was found to be worth promoting…bravo!! xx
LindaR
Please delete this once you’ve read ~ as you point to ~ this is your “store front” but I feel compelled to second your post with my own..
I am sorry to see that akuzi felt it necessary to leave a comment like that ~ it is not only called for ~ azkuzi’s opinion is one we are all entitled to but not the behavior of leaving the rude comment. Your response was so straight, honest and polite ~ I hope it is taken to heart.
The bottom line is if you don’t like something – don’t comment. If you have a suggestion, offer in with the consideration you yourself would like to hear it. Otherwise, move on. It saddens me to see this happen here and hope my words offer some consideration for azkuzi to reconsider doing this again and affirmation and admiration of your own post.
Jennifer Woodward replied
Thanks Linda, I’m glad we’re in agreement! I rarely delete comments, it would be better if we were all reading from the same hymn sheet, but that’s not always the case… I respects all views, but I lose respect when those views have no substance… thanks again for your affirmation sweetie, much appreciated! :-)

Jennifer, this is a beautiful piece of Artwork. It would not have been featured and have a gajillian comments in 2 days if it were’nt! We are all aware of the caliber of your Artwork! (not everyone is a film purist like AKUZI) As for the rest of us…. We think you are a badass!
Keep up the awesome work,

Variety – makes the world go ‘round, right? There is a saying that martial artists use: “Lengthen your line”. In short, improve yourself to become better – lengthen your line; rather than tearing someone else down – shorten someone else’s line in order to make yours appear longer. Keep lengthening your line Jennifer. Your work is fabulous. If you were to paint the exact same piece of art would it be any greater or lesser? Very well done and it deserves a place in my favorites for sure.
Jennifer Woodward replied
Very wise words, Kurt, I very much appreciate your encouragement, and thank you so much for the fave! :-)

Agnes McGuinness
Hi, Jennifer, I just saw this awesome photo in the feature page. And I see there’s a bit of a debate going on here. I was attracted to this image, and thought you had done something to it; either with a special filter on camera, or with Photoshop. And I was so intrigued to know what you had done. The end result is magnificent, and surely that’s what counts. Bravo. Agnes:)))

This is absolutely stunning!!! I was just cruising RedBubble’s main page Featured section … always an education for me … and this beautiful piece simply called to me. You’ve capture such a beautiful atmosphere here … the true essence of autumn … that which is leaving us in grace and beauty. The somber shades of darkness are so beautifully punctuated by the crimson of the trees … and the strewn leaves in the foreground are perfection!!!! Simply gorgeous!!!! And congratulations on your Feature!!!!!
Jennifer Woodward replied
So glad this one stood out for you, Lois, thank you for your kind and beautiful words! :-)

What a beautiful photo.
Paul Tupman
This is wonderful… an instant favourite! I love the mood of this shot, the dark sky really adds to this and I love the way it contrasts with all of the fantastic bright autumnal colours. The portrait format works very well here with a great composition and I love the detail of the leaves in the foreground.
Excellent!
Igor Janicijevic
Amazing colours! Love it!
mklue
Great colors – I, too, am somewhat of a “purist” about photography, but I see absolutely nothing objectionable here. A saturated film and edge-diffusion filter (or vaseline on a clear filter), would have provided the same effect. If you prefer to do it in post-production, that’s your creative choice, and no one else’s business. Nicely composed, and the threatening sky is a nice addition. 2-Thumbs Up!
PICMART
Awesome colours!
Ted Byrne
Whoa! Palette and texture tingles both my feelings and imagination. Lovvit when an image pulls me through the plane. Thanks Jennifer.
Jennifer Woodward replied
Hi Ted! Thank you! I lovvit when a usually bland landscape like this place, comes alive at certain times of the season! To me, it reflects that beauty is everywhere, all of the time, even in its blandness, but sometimes, it shows all its glory in just one snapshot…
Ted Byrne
You’re astonishingly unfair to yourself Jennifer, this ain’t no snapshot :-)
Jennifer Woodward
They’re all snapshots (almost came our snapshits!!) Ted… shoot n snap n dabble later where appropriate!! :-)
Tom Vaughan
Simply beatiful.. the red tree seems to glow.
helmutk
Lovely capture !
bobbymcleod
ok…so i’m at the end of a long list of kudos…but on opening your portfolio, this one caught my eye…apart from the stunning saturated colors, it also has a kind of 3-D effect…a fine, fine image!
Jennifer Woodward replied
Thank you very kindly, Bobby! Glad this one stood out for you, I appreciate your lovely comment and watchlist add, too! :-)

A splendid fall scene with great composition and colors…My best…Marjorie

I think this is that one in a million shot. Can’t imagine finding such a thing on my own camera. Love the lighting, saturation, just all of it.
Nigdaw
Well, all the way down here looking up I feel as though I’m the last in a line of admirers. I really like your work and Photoshop is a tool of the trade nowdays. Show me an image that in some way hasn’t been enhanced, either on camera or on PC. Its all part of the digital art form. Great work don’t be discouraged, I know one critesism can cancel out all the praise.
elphonline
Great autumn scene.
FireStar
wow.
Steve Sharp
Ah this is the ‘controversial’ piece I remember you telling me about! Well I think its lovely (and I can’t believe i haven’t commented before, given how much I like it), and you are absolutely right to defend your corner about the processing, given that post-processing is every inch as valid and justified as ‘straight’ photography. Every photo is an artifical representation of reality anyway, given that its only two dimensional rather than four (including time of course), and when you consider that some of the ‘greatest’ photos ever taken are black and white, which is, after all, a piece of photographic trickery after all – anything goes. It is the end result that counts, how you got there is almost irrelevant. So well done Jen! :)
