Chimpanzee at Sweetwaters Tented Camp, Kenya. Sweetwaters is part of the Ol Pejeta Conservancy which has a sanctuary for chimpanzees. The sanctuary was set up in conjunction with the Jane Goodall Foundation. It is such a pity that places like this are needed but most of the chimps have suffered cruelty at the hands of humans and since they have been rescued they cannot be returned to the wild as they would not survive. Although a couple of chimps have been born at the sanctuary, the majority are there either as a result of their mothers being poached, being captured for trade in pets or trade in bushmeat. The sanctuary is a large area with an electric fence to protect the chimps but in every other way is like their natural habitat. Chimps and humans share 96% DNA and are four times stronger than a man.
