Something About...

I just lay here on my bed with an old notebook thinking ‘I want to write something about…’ But I still haven’t done it.

I guess there’s still something inside of me waiting for the right time.

xox

Something about aging,
illness and death
and never quite knowing
when you’ll take
your last breath
just a niggling feeling,
that questions why
we’re born to live,
and yet live to die

Something about wishing,
you knew about love
or believed in something
below or above
something about needing,
to call it your own
to covet and nurture
when you’re alone

Something about thinking,
of days gone by
and those who have left you
high and dry
friends forgotten,
and lovers now gone
and those who have died,
while you still live on

Something about chasing,
memories and dreams
and hearing life’s laughter
instead of death’s screams

Something about feeling it,
there deep inside
and bottling it up
like tears never cried

Something about,
the faces of men
who’ve passed through your life,
to touch you and then
drifted away
to begin new lives
forgetting the whore,
in search of their wives

Something about needing,
to forget the pain
while reliving the past
again and again

Something about needing,
to write something down
that wont be forgotten
when you’re not around
something about dying,
and making way
for other lost souls
who have something to say

Something about poetry,
stories and dreams
mountains and valleys,
sunsets and streams
something about needing
to make amends
with lovers now gone
and long lost friends

Something about realising,
it hurts to care
and wishing you’d taken
the time to share
your feelings with someone,
who’d stay by your side
instead of building a wall
and a safe place to hide

Something about aging
and feeling old
and wondering if all
of your stories
have been told

Something about needing,
to find your way home
feeling calm and contented
within one last poem
something about anger,
surrendering to peace
where the words give you freedom
and one last release

Something about wasted
years locked inside
feeling bitter and angry
with self-centred pride

Something about…

holding grudges,
and then letting go
giving yourself space
to heal and grow

Something about…

go out and get a cheap old lined school type note book…. then every single morning you get up and have a pee and make a cup of tea and sit down and write anything whatever comes in to your head into the book… three foolscape pages every morning before you talk to anyone… no reading it back and no showing to anyone…and before you know it…. the words are pouring out…...morning pages….

  • JenniferB replied

ah… thanks for that, I’ll give it a try some time.

  • JenniferB replied

Thanks Damien, I did kind of feel the words when I wrote them but I miss the rush and adrenalin that simple, pure venting in my poetry can give me. :-)

    giovanni

haahahaaaa… actually those were 2 separate thoughts. BUT… yur invitation does have a certain appeal!

  • JenniferB replied

I guess that depends on whether you need to hold or be held. ;-)
There’s nothing wrong with losing your grasp, sometimes that feeling of flying aimlessly in mid air above everyone can be quite liberating.

  • giovanni

    giovanni

i only wish it was flying above…more like scraping along a dry pavement head over heels…like i once did riding my bike as a kid…that hurt!

  • JenniferB replied

Ouch! Then you better be careful, or they might take away the pavement and replace it with a padded room… still, it can be peaceful in there. :)

    to touch you and then
    drifted away
    to begin new lives
    forgetting the whore,
    in search of their wives”

is a fantastic verse. Just take a good long look down my throat into the deepest fear in the very bottom of my heart, then stick it on the internet for me to confront, will you?

No one’s ever going to trap me with Wife chains.

Sounds dodgy if you ask me.
I find I write best at the end of the day – between 5 and 8 in the AM.

I dig this Jen, it could be my favourite of yours to date.

  • Tracey Walker

    Tracey Walker

LOL – I wasn-t refering to you as old, don’t worry!! The poem gave me the impression of a journey through life, the kind of thing you might contemplate in old age. That surrendering to peace…it somehow made me think of an old person close to their last breath (or I suppose it could even be a young person close to their last breath) contemplating their life at the end.

  • JenniferB replied

no worries Tracey, I wasn’t offended or anything, maybe I just feel old sometimes! L:-)

Yeah it starts off great, but then it ends up a bit of a mindfuck…......it’s weird to say the least, but it makes you think. It’s one of those movies where they show you the only great parts in the trailer lol!

  • JenniferB replied

hahaha! I think most movies highlight the few minutes of best movie parts in their trailers. :)
    I like movies that are mind fucking and have a psychological context like serial killer movies and stuff, lol… Not that I have any plans to be one, though my fiance pushes the limits at times!!! ;

I was in a strange, kind of detatched state of limbo when I wrote this, you know, the kind of mind set where you’ve shut yourself off from everyone and everything and just feel numb, it was a weird poem to write. thanks again Christie. xox
