Something About...
I just lay here on my bed with an old notebook thinking ‘I want to write something about…’ But I still haven’t done it.
I guess there’s still something inside of me waiting for the right time.
xox
Something about aging,
illness and death
and never quite knowing
when you’ll take
your last breath
just a niggling feeling,
that questions why
we’re born to live,
and yet live to die
Something about wishing,
you knew about love
or believed in something
below or above
something about needing,
to call it your own
to covet and nurture
when you’re alone
Something about thinking,
of days gone by
and those who have left you
high and dry
friends forgotten,
and lovers now gone
and those who have died,
while you still live on
Something about chasing,
memories and dreams
and hearing life’s laughter
instead of death’s screams
Something about feeling it,
there deep inside
and bottling it up
like tears never cried
Something about,
the faces of men
who’ve passed through your life,
to touch you and then
drifted away
to begin new lives
forgetting the whore,
in search of their wives
Something about needing,
to forget the pain
while reliving the past
again and again
Something about needing,
to write something down
that wont be forgotten
when you’re not around
something about dying,
and making way
for other lost souls
who have something to say
Something about poetry,
stories and dreams
mountains and valleys,
sunsets and streams
something about needing
to make amends
with lovers now gone
and long lost friends
Something about realising,
it hurts to care
and wishing you’d taken
the time to share
your feelings with someone,
who’d stay by your side
instead of building a wall
and a safe place to hide
Something about aging
and feeling old
and wondering if all
of your stories
have been told
Something about needing,
to find your way home
feeling calm and contented
within one last poem
something about anger,
surrendering to peace
where the words give you freedom
and one last release
Something about wasted
years locked inside
feeling bitter and angry
with self-centred pride
Something about…
holding grudges,
and then letting go
giving yourself space
to heal and grow
Something about…
Juilee Pryor
this is brilliant
JenniferB replied
you think so? thanks Juilee, I was afraid I couldn’t conjour up the feelings needed to write any more.
invisible
amazing you !
JenniferB replied
aw… thanks invisible. :-)
Lisa Jewell
Oh Jen,
This is an incredible piece of writing….I’m in awe. You’ve truly written a journey.
Love it…
JenniferB replied
It’s a bit softer than a lot of my previous work, maybe I’m mellowing out in my old age! lol – Hopefully not too much… ;-)
Juilee Pryor
stop worring about conjouring and just be…. have you thought about doing some morning pages?
JenniferB replied
morning pages? what are those?
blamo

Sticky Flower

JenniferB replied
aw.. thanks Stick Chick. :-)
Juilee Pryor
go out and get a cheap old lined school type note book…. then every single morning you get up and have a pee and make a cup of tea and sit down and write anything whatever comes in to your head into the book… three foolscape pages every morning before you talk to anyone… no reading it back and no showing to anyone…and before you know it…. the words are pouring out…...morning pages….
JenniferB replied
ah… thanks for that, I’ll give it a try some time.
woof

poeticgenius
another one that just proves you earned every ounce of respect I have for your work and the grains of truth within this piece have inspired many I’m sure
JenniferB replied
thanks, it’s a change in style from some of my earlier work, I guess I’m feeling a bit mellower these days. :-)
Damien Venditti
its funny Jen that you say maybe you’ve mellowed or gotten softer, but to me this is great from the heart writing and its got the journey of life flowing thru it … its hits a lot of truths and in that way is profound … well done to ya .. i enjoyed this a lot : )) xx
JenniferB replied
Thanks Damien, I did kind of feel the words when I wrote them but I miss the rush and adrenalin that simple, pure venting in my poetry can give me. :-)
PJ Ryan
something about you
xx
JenniferB replied
thanks Nicole. :-)
Damien Venditti
yeah i know what you mean …. it must be like a cycle within creativity or something … i bet it returns again .. i still think the work you have here is still of quality

JenniferB replied
Thanks Linda, some feelings are so darn hard to put into words, I’m glad you liked reading it. :)

‘Something about wishing’
Very nice.
JenniferB replied
Thanks!
mstrace
I wish you could see your work through my eyes. You’d drown in absolute amazement.
JenniferB replied
thanks mstrace, I’m never really happy or satisfied with what I create, it always seems a bit flat for me now that the edge has been medicated out of me.
deliriousgirl
Stunning rhythm, m’dear.
JenniferB replied
Hey dg! it’s good to hear from you again, we always did have great rhythm. ;-) lol thanks!
lostboy13
so beautiful, wrecked.
lostboy13
i mean i`m wrecked, it`s been a rough day today…x
JenniferB replied
it has? sorry to hear that, wrecked in a good, mellow way or wrecked in a shitty way?
lostboy13
just drained, but i`m in a good place now.
JenniferB replied
that’s cool… you’re too hard on yourself, people either accept you the way you are or they can fuck off – simple. :-D
lostboy13
we build our own cross to bear..the weight is inevitable.
JenniferB replied
Mmm… true enough.
adamkade
I love this poem. Keep on shining. XXX.
JenniferB replied
thanks adam, I go through phases, sometimes i can’t write a thing for months. :)
Leon Walker
This is a phenomenal and gripping piece of writing!!! Among the best I have read on here. You are very gifted… I hope you know that…
JenniferB replied
Thanks Leon, I’ve been reading some of your poetry, you really have a beautiful way of expressing yourself with words, no, I don’t see myself as gifted or anything, it’s just kind of like if I get an itch every now and again, I scratch it. :-) xox
lilgem4u
I hope you are making money off of your work. If not you need to!
JenniferB replied
Ha! Nah… Nah, just another deadbeat poor poet wearing her heart on her sleeve, theres’ something wildly romantic about being poor. :-) Long time, no see by the way!

JenniferB replied

giovanni
i had to read this again… sometimes i feel like ive lost my grasp…
JenniferB replied
hu? my poem made you feel like you’ve lost your grasp? I can give you something to hold onto if you like. lol :-)
giovanni
haahahaaaa… actually those were 2 separate thoughts. BUT… yur invitation does have a certain appeal!
JenniferB replied
I guess that depends on whether you need to hold or be held. ;-)
There’s nothing wrong with losing your grasp, sometimes that feeling of flying aimlessly in mid air above everyone can be quite liberating.
giovanni
i only wish it was flying above…more like scraping along a dry pavement head over heels…like i once did riding my bike as a kid…that hurt!
JenniferB replied
Ouch! Then you better be careful, or they might take away the pavement and replace it with a padded room… still, it can be peaceful in there. :)
Phil Threlfall
Yes you can JB
JenniferB replied
I can? Thanks Phil… I think! Lol :-)
lolowe
I leave for a while and when I come back I’m greeted with your words. It’s always so refreshing.

JenniferB replied
can’t wait to read it! keep safe and well in the meantime. :-)
Ulrikeart
Jennifer…you are a beautiful soul….........Blessings Ulli
JenniferB replied
Thank you Ulrikeart. :-)
Druidstorm
You capture the essence of memory truly friend! We are but ghosts longing to be, our touch but forgotten upon the emptiness of their souls! If only we could begin again and say them words “REMEMBER ME!” Your craft is amazing Jennifer!!!...)o(
JenniferB replied
Thanks for your thoughtful comment Druidstorm. I don’t know, I felt kind of flat and numb when I wrote this so I’m glad it came out okay.
Druidstorm
Right I see! I thought you were reminiscing important times! Still your words ROCK!!!...)o(
JenniferB replied
Aww… Appreciate your kind words as always, thanks! :-D xox

Cassey
Your words are often mesmerizing. They swirl around in my head until they finally settle down, I catch my breath and say, “wow.”
JenniferB replied
Thanks for the wonderful compliment Cassey. :-)
JonoCarrick
This poem is so brilliantly deep and profound. Hypnotic. Poignant. Amazing.
JenniferB replied
Thanks Jono, it’s one of those poems you write when you can’t fully put your thoughts into words so you just keep thinking “something about…” :-)
JonoCarrick
most of the time the best poetry is spontaneous, raw and straight from the heart. This is a prime example of such poetry.
JenniferB replied
thanks Jono, your words of support are much appreciated. :)
Shoaib .
read this one again, i just liked it even more this time
JenniferB replied
Thanks Shoaib. :-)
Mark Ramstead

JenniferB replied
thanks lazydaze, it’s full of questions but empty of answers, lol
Paul Rees-Jones
This is such beautiful prose.
There is a sadness and a journey.
There is tenderness and something so wise in these words.
Thank you.

JenniferB replied
it was like the last spurt of inspiration I had before I went brain dead!!! :-) Thanks.
nnimus3
y’know what? I don’t like this poem very much, sorry. But I think
“Something about,
the faces of men
who’ve passed through your life,
to touch you and then
drifted away
to begin new lives
forgetting the whore,
in search of their wives”
is a fantastic verse. Just take a good long look down my throat into the deepest fear in the very bottom of my heart, then stick it on the internet for me to confront, will you?
No one’s ever going to trap me with Wife chains.
JenniferB replied
you know what nnimus3, like it or not, I take any and ever response and reaction as a compliment, so thanks for taking the time to comment! :-)
silverstrummer...
Wow Jennifer I love this poem in verse and in rhyme ….... a lot pf poets find this hard to do …...... but you have made this poem flow so brilliantly. In parts of your poem I relate to it a lot and your words are comforting! Thank You – David
JenniferB replied

Thanks Pete… Weird… But I haven’t been able to write anything since, still, I guess my creativy and passion for writing will return in good time. :-)
4242
Hmmm.
A friend of mine just told me about the ‘morning pages,’ thing.
Her version has her doing 2hrs of scribbling every morning.
Sounds dodgy if you ask me.
I find I write best at the end of the day – between 5 and 8 in the AM.
I dig this Jen, it could be my favourite of yours to date.
I’m kinda over the bubble after I burned myself, but I’m stoked I can sneak in again and hang out with you and your twisted sense. ;->
JenniferB replied
Oh… I’ve burnt myself here on a couple of occasions! Life and the bubble still goes on. Glad you liked reading this and thanks for the memories! ;-)

Tracey Walker
AMAZING! I hope i grow as wise when I grow old! Than kyou so much. It’s going in my favourites. I’ve written a journal called “who will be your saviour” on here that talks about some of the points on your poem. xx
JenniferB replied
Heeeeeeeeey!!! less of the ‘old’ stuff thank you! I’m not that old yet! LOL I’ll check out your journal soon, thanks. :-)
Tracey Walker
LOL – I wasn-t refering to you as old, don’t worry!! The poem gave me the impression of a journey through life, the kind of thing you might contemplate in old age. That surrendering to peace…it somehow made me think of an old person close to their last breath (or I suppose it could even be a young person close to their last breath) contemplating their life at the end.
JenniferB replied
no worries Tracey, I wasn’t offended or anything, maybe I just feel old sometimes! L:-)
Impassioned
Wow! I love this…love your writings! the words you speak and what you share. Thank you!
JenniferB replied
Thanks Mark! I must get around to trying to write again soon. :-)
MrHill
Very strong words, and images….let the ink flow…........

jomash
Great poem, glad you wrote it down ! xxx
JenniferB replied
Thanks Joanne, I’ve been thinking about you a lot, hoping that you’re doing okay and stuff. xox
linaji

JenniferB replied

jacqleen
NOOOOOOOOOO….you need to write MORE…..You Do Magic with WORDS….just take your time, I’m sure it’s STILL INSIDE YOU somewhere…...it will COME and I can’t wait to READ THEM :)))) xx

(I watched Vanilla Sky the other night)
This is superb, totally true and made me catch my breath Jen…....
My fave of your amazing work…....................so far :) xx
JenniferB replied
Thanks Tracey, i’ve never seen Vanilla Sky but someone showed me the trailers to it once, it looked like a great movie.
Shanina Conway
Brilliant Jennifer, something very special;)
JenniferB replied
Thanks Shanina, I appreciate your dropping by to comment. :)
Tracey Mac
Yeah it starts off great, but then it ends up a bit of a mindfuck…......it’s weird to say the least, but it makes you think. It’s one of those movies where they show you the only great parts in the trailer lol!
JenniferB replied
hahaha! I think most movies highlight the few minutes of best movie parts in their trailers. :
))I like movies that are mind fucking and have a psychological context like serial killer movies and stuff, lol… Not that I have any plans to be one, though my fiance pushes the limits at times!!! ;
Tracey Mac
LOL!!
Ok then you better go rent it out….......I think you’ll love it hahaha!
(the ending pissed me right off, I actually slapped the couch and cried Nooooooo don’t end it there you bastards!! hahaha)
JenniferB replied
hahaha! I’ll check that intentional vandalism to a television is covered by my insurance policy first. :)
Karen Cougan

JenniferB replied 29 days ago
I was in a strange, kind of detatched state of limbo when I wrote this, you know, the kind of mind set where you’ve shut yourself off from everyone and everything and just feel numb, it was a weird poem to write. thanks again Christie. xox
lupa 29 days ago
everybody has already said it…..I just wanted to tell you how much I love this….I think it’s just beautiful…I get this…in every cell…
JenniferB replied 29 days ago
