Something about memories, secrets, past, present, future and who really gives a fuck anyway?
The internet is a strange place, for many, like myself, it becomes a safe place, a place of refuge, warmth and protection, the life we reveal to others is portrayed on snapshots, tiny colourful glimpses of the entire picture, cryptic messages carved on the damp. cavernous walls of poems, stories and prose.
Away from the internet we live, breathe, fuck, fight, earn a living, pay off debts, owe and feel obligated to people, in general we complicate our lives, more often than not, taking the easy road simply to please other people, keeping the peace to avoid conflict and confrontation.
Life itself becomes a metaphor for codependency and we let others who depend on us suck the life force out of us. In taking care of others we lose ownership of ourselves… Our identities fall into the messed up, murky mosh-pit of everyday living.
Some people have precious memories to look back on, images in the back of their minds that bring a smile to their faces causing them to sigh and shake their heads from side to side…
Other people recall only painful nightmares and the memories that make them smile are far and few between.
I think it’s important to remember that today’s experiences will one day become tomorrow’s memories, they’ll become the movies and photographs we replay in our minds over and over again…
We can only change and shape those images by adding newer, happier ones to the album, and that can only be achieved in the present, by the things we do today.
Wouldn’t it be great if we could put our memories through photoshop, edit, soften and enhance them?
Ah shit, I’m just rambling, I haven’t written fuck all in a while and this is the only way I can get my mind back into gear… Creating letters and words out of my thoughts, that are unfortunately, due to a cocktail of mood stabilising chemicals, pretty limited.
Sometimes I have to shut everything off, hold everything back, breathe everything in and close everything down in order to open myself up and let it all out. On those days it can seem like I’m non-existent…
But I’m still here, just behind your computer screens, feeling and thinking, but saying nothing.
We all have our secrets I guess…

You may be rambling, but, it’s a very enlightened ramble. It was interesting read what you think, it comes close to mirroring my own state of mind recently. I want to tell the world to fuck off, leave me alone, go away. Unfortunately, I can’t as I need the world just to stay alive, and others, whom I care about, need me tro help keep them “in” the world in the sense that I do things they can’t or won’t, for various reasons. As you say, it’s sometimes easier to keep the peace, but, it would be nice to be able to please no-one other than myself, even if it’s only once in a blue moon.
Memories are precious, they are one way of knowing where we’ve been, and if they’re happy ones, they give us a better feeling, about ourselves and the world in general. I hope your memories are more happy than sad. Take comfort in the knowledge that people care about you and would miss you if you left their lives in any way.
JenniferB replied
Aww… Thanks for your sweet, insightful words clarkey, yep, sometimes life can feel like one huge debt that needs repaying! No wonder some people declare themselves bankrupt so that all of the pressure goes away. I think everyone needs a little ‘Me Time’ every once in a while. :-) xox

Jen…........what an amazing thought….......I’m in for that one…..
This is an excellent read….............and right up my alley….................you say it so well!!!
And I’m glad you’re just behind the screen…......I’m forcing myself not to turn the monitor around right now ;)

thanks for sharing your thoughts Jen : )...that second paragraph is one I can relate to only too well…but trying to balance it out…through learning a lot of life lessons…
...funny how the little snippets here and there..on rb…can piece together, to a point, the person behind them to those on the other side of the screen ; ) xx
JenniferB replied
Thanks Care… Yep, sometimes surrendering and giving in to others is a lot easier than dealing with the conflict that can occur by fighting it, I guess age and the passage of time is mellowing me. :-) xox

I have to say Miss JB this is a brilliant piece of self-reflective writing… you certainly described life as i know it too…..
“Life itself becomes a metaphor for codependency and we let others who depend on us suck the life force out of us. In taking care of others we lose ownership of ourselves… Our identities fall into the messed up, murky mosh-pit of everyday living.”
You say it so well and I totally relate…...and had a smile about the photoshop comment…hmmm….wish I could photoshop a LOT of things in my life LOL…..
Regardless of your thoughts about yourself and your creativity, I for one both “see” and admire the small glimpses of “you” that you release to the e-world via your writing and art…..however camouflaged they might be by the anonymity or freedom of the internet
JenniferB replied
mmm… I’m quite protective of my private life. ;-)
Thanks so much for your thoughtful, kind words Wendy.

You have such a ‘no-fucking-nonsense’ way of looking at life. I am all for that ............. the real soul and the real person that is YOU Jen, just brings so much joy to the folk on RB who are following this little snippet of your life’s journey….....because you choose to take us into your heart and share your joy, grief and ordinariness with us…......... You will leave us all with fond memories when we are long gone from RB. You are real. That is very, very nice…..............xxLindaxx…......... :)
JenniferB replied
Thanks so much for your supportive words Linda, the internet, just like real life, can be both heaven and hell at times! So good to see you back on form again and sounding happier! :-) xox

Oh hell yeah! The grind of day-to-day living often sucks any creativity out of the brain like a vacuum. But there’s a whole lot to be said for endurance and perseverance. I’m much more appreciative of the small things these days.
don’t let the bastards grind you down, you are well loved by many
JenniferB replied
Oh I know what you mean about appreciating the small things more, life sure has a way of kicking you in the ass and changing your perspective at times! So cool to hear you out and about again, you too are much loved and appreciated by many. :-)

I’m in reverie inside your so called rambling
I say bollocks.
Your (rambling) writing is insightful, it is pure, it is real, it is hopeful, it is whimsical, and it is you.
I love the idea of taking memories and softening
I love the idea of taking memories and sharpening…
You are right we show glimpse here of who we are….for me I have a voice that I’m often too shy to use in the “real” world.
I too have to shut everything off and retreat to my cave….strangely enough I’ve learnt to retreat to my cave while still functioning in my so called normal world, of work and commitments. I’m sure nobody realises I’m on auto pilot.
Wonderful and thought provoking writing, Jen… xxx
JenniferB replied
Thanks for your enlightening, evocative words Lisa, yes, I really do think many people live two separate lives these days, one on the internet and one in reality, the thing with the internet is that we can filter our thoughts and experiences so that only those things we want people to see make it through, there are so many more less glamorous, exciting things going on in our lives that never make it past the editor’s cut, rolls of life sitting coiled and tangled on the cutting room floor. :
) See! Your comment was as equally thought provoking! You’re an artform in itself! :)xoxAstoreth
well Jen…I promise you, this piece has opened my eyes…..it is so bloody true…. I for one, absolutely HATE confrontation…so I’ve chosen to be a people pleaser, which is actually sickening because you leave yourself totally out of the equation so that someone else will be happy and you walk away miserable because you didn’t say or fight for what you wanted to say or fight for…..eeeuuuww…..I hate that feeling!! I have literally allowed the life-force to be sucked out of me by the needy…to the point where I could no longer smile….I could only cry with them because that is all they do!! well…I realised that and only I can change it….like everything else in my life. I truly am not obligated to get immersed in the sidewalk level of the misery of the world and I need to make some beautiful memories for myself too…which might sound selfish to some but truly, it no longer sounds or feels slefish to me. This writing of yours truly confirmed that!! Thanks Jen. xxxx
JenniferB replied
I don’t think that giving something back to yourself or creating happy memories for yourself is selfish, not when you’ve spent the larger part of your life living and giving to others, I’m glad if my writing has been able to help you in some way, as writers we all hope that people can take something from the emotions and experiences we portray that can alter their lives or thinking for the better. Most of my writing over the years has been very therapeutic and self-healing, so it’s a good feeling to be able to write something that makes others feel altered and better in some way, thanks for sharing your story with me, you’re both an extraordinary person and writer. :-)

Creating letters and words out of my thoughts, that are unfortunately, due to a cocktail of mood stabilising chemicals, pretty limited. Shaft the Mood Stabilising Chemicals… We take them because there is need to appear operation in the world we need to provide what makes us survive. It’s words like these that have form and meaning and create music that resonates in the minds of many – because we know the same rhythms as you.
I’m onvinced that it’s not the creativity that is so limited by such ‘stabilisers’ as it is our experience of them. The volume and one is limited in our experience of life rather than the sound of life itself being silenced.
Write on dear Jen – in the words of You’ve Got Mail – You are a Lone Read.
As far as your observance of the Internet personality versus the Public and Real Personalities I believe you are very right. I wonder about how many memory creation moments I am missing out on by sitting right here looking at a screen.
JenniferB replied
mmm… I want to come off the meds but I’ve been advised against it right now, wouldn’t want to do anything drastic and end up in the psyche unit again!!! Life is what it is, there’s always something to be learnt from it I guess and maybe we should be ‘out there’ living and experiencing things, but sometimes it feels a whole lot warmer and safer in here. :-) xox

Ooh, did you see the latex and bondage gear in that vid? reminds me of a vid steve introduced me to, take a look at it here when you have the time, it’s pretty freaky and hot – A serial killer’s fantasy! :-)
woof
BRAVO!!!! :) it can’t get better than that!!! it’s funny how the minds at times just takes over and the happy or fucked up memories we love to hold to so dearly as if they were precious pearls, takes us on a trip. sometimes that trip might be back to the past, maybe happy ones- god he was a great lover or fucked up ones-
that fuck never told me he was married. then there are times it takes us to the future… neither are helpful. sucking up our life as you said. and when we come to think about it, the most important time is… the present. if one stays in the present, the moment of being in the now, one would see the past and
the future aren’t important at all. for the past is the past, and the future will come
with the steps we taking NOW. Now I’m rambling on… it’s early here, so i might not be making any sense… oh well, what’s in important is that i LOVE WHAT YOU WROTE!!!! :)
JenniferB replied
No woof, you made perfect sense! All we really have are our memories and the here or now, I try to replace as many shitty memories I can with better ones, but sometimes bad experiences are unavoidable. I’m glad you enjoyed reading what I wrote, I’ve really gotten out of the swing of writing and real life has a way of screwing up your creativity every now and again, thanks for your thoughtful, kind words – much appreciated. :-)
aglaia b
mmmm, very interesting and enjoyable indeed. ;-) xox
btw, i’m loving the way your new hot red smokin lips light up my activity. ;-P xox

thanks, yep I was getting a bit bored with the other avatar, and they say that change is as good as a holiday, the new avatar was selected for a very special person we both know! ;-) xox

Thank you for sharing this enlightened bit of insightful rambling. Should you find life’s photoshop, I’ll happily be the first guinea pig in line to test it.
JenniferB replied
Thanks Cassidy! Who knows, maybe one day they’ll invent something that erases all of your past memories and replaces them with the happier things that we should have experienced! Life sure can be one hell of a long learning experience! :-)
Outdoors2
Memories are what make us, us though, aren’t they?
I think we all have shit we’d rather forget, change, do over, relive…
But there is no photoshoping the truth…..;-))
Onward and Upward
Like Buzz Lightyear said in Toy’s “To Infinity…and Beyond”
I’m wherever You are

Oh I forgot….
“I DON’T GIVE A FUCK…;-P”
JenniferB replied
That’s a cool little poem OD2! Nope, there is no photoshopping past memories and experiences, but it’s nice to imagine that there could be! Oh, those words ‘I don’t give a fuck’ have been a philosophy I lived by… but some fucks are worth giving! ;-)

excerpt from a longer one
I live them too! “What me worry” Alfred E Newman
Do I need to start swimming again?
seems I just got back…xxx
JenniferB replied
I’ve never heard that quote before, not quite sure i understand it, but then again, it’s past 2:00 am in the morning here in NZ, so my brain’s running on minimal brain cells. :-) xox
Outdoors2
Alfred E Newman was (is) Mad magazines spokesperson who really doesn’t give a fuck…;-)
JenniferB replied
ah… I googled him… can’t see anything there about him not giving a fuck though. :-)
Outdoors2
Well I read the mag all through my youth still do on occasion and that’s how he is. ha…;-)

yep… I remember those Mad comics, my brother was a staunch fan of them back in the days I was playing with bendable rubber barbie dolls and making them do contortions! lol :-)
aglaia b
btw, have you seen this film
if not i highly recommend you download it or hire it asap, you are gonna love it. hehe
plus it’s a very different role for funny man jim carrey and very on par with your rambling here! LOL ;-) xox
JenniferB replied
nope, I haven’t seen that movie, I don’t tend to have the attention span required to sit through an entire film, I’m sooooo adhd sometimes! lol But that movie does look great, so I might make an exception and take a look at it, memory erasing hu? hahaha :-)xox
Matt Roberts
Indeed we do.
Great pice of writing – very true.
JenniferB replied
Thanks Matt… Just trying to get into a writing frame of mind again, I’ve been spending all of my time trying to focus on writing poetry when I really should just write freestyle and let it all flow, :)
Dwayne Boyd
This piece reminds me of your man, George Carlin. May he R.I.P. It’s self reflective, but it also makes some good points about how we all relate to one another. You are beautiful, insightful and you rock many people’s worlds. Whether you in front of or behind of a computer screen you make an impact. If you’re taking stock of your situation that’s just fine. Use this time to be you. Write when the spirit moves you. Play with photoshop to twist things up. Be Jennifer B. at all costs.
Much Love.
JenniferB replied
awwww… what a beautiful comment Dwayne, thanks so much, you both made me smile and made my day! :-) xox

Vivian Mairo
Ha Jennifer, from my point of view your brain already “is” in the writing frame again, possibly never really leave it ;))
JenniferB replied
Awww… Thanks Vivian, I think I’ve been to focussed on wanting to create a ‘poem’, concentrating on style and form, instead of just letting myself free-style for a while. :-)
jacqleen
I LOVED this….........so TRUE and so HONEST…...........and I wished more people thought like this!!! :)

i thought you said you were having writers block
bullshit
this some pretty awesome thoughts
and yah anyway i like to photoshop my memories
hahaha .. soften heartbreak and crop out people i dont want
ahhhhhhh
JenniferB replied
Oh I am having writer’s block, if you read this it sounds a little structured, flat and too contrived, or at least to me it does, I wanna be able to freestyle and flow like you’re managing to do right now. :)
Alain Safa
This is a mirror of reallity and as I said before i´m happy that I saw the pure one insid the mirror without been lead by illussions.
Great way od expression and reflections.
