My Plan - Escaping to the Land of the Brave
I’m going to sell up every shitty material thing I own including the house, garden flat and the meth lab, and I’m going to join a reservation some place in America amongst an ancient American Indian tribe.
I’ll be a Teacher or something like that there, Clinton is in for the idea too – any other interested bubblers?
Does anyone know of a Tribe that has managed to retain most of its traditional customs and practices? One that hasn’t become completely corrupt by white invasion, domination and assimilation?
I have no idea what the protocol or procedures are for joining and cohabitation amongst a group of indiginous people, all I know is that I’m sick to death of white hypocrisy, beaurocracy, greed and bullshit.
I’m going to do a bit of research and contact some people, if you know anyone who you can put me in touch with, please let me know, it sure beats my last little experiment where I advertised for a terrorist pen pal, which, incidentally got my ass kicked off of MySpace. when I only wanted to see how a terrorist ticked, from a journalistic perspective, and to do a photo story.

You might find it difficult to just lob over to the USA and expect them to grant you a permanent VISA. Many hoops to jump through.

I am close friends with several members of various “tribes” over there, have even visited them and had them visit here, but you will be hard pressed to find any “untouched” by white cultures….I am sorry to say. Seems like the diseases of western culture are widespread. Still, it would not hurt to start communications with such people as they would know more…..

Same deal. They are very unwilling to grant long term VISAs to anybody to work in USA unless you have special skills eg. scientist or something. And they WILL not let anyone live there without means of support.

absolutely, many have whole communities that work together, earn their revenue (some by using “their” lands in ways to earn money for the tribe from white people, as in casino’s etc, which i find really amusing and ironic!) I think opening up communication with various members of such tribes (at the moment I know of two who would have discussions with you….) might be a good way to start.

I’d appreciate your putting me in touch with someone Wendy, at least to get a feel of the concept and context. I don’t know, maybe I’m a bit of a dreamer, but I just reckon the indigenous people essentially make sense and know how to live life to its fullest, minus materialistic crap and modern, scientific intervention, including this darn internet! I have a lot of respect for many of their beliefs and customs.

I will email you some more info, as I think as a teacher, you may find you are welcome in even a cultural exchange type way…..I have friends who grew up on reservations, but whether they exist as such anymore, I do not know…. but I do know that the tribal communities are very close knit… and preserving and sharing cultures is very important to them.

Hmm, I always liked the idea of the Amish too. AFAIK you don’t HAVE t o be Amish to live amongst then, just about their social code… same as you you do anywhere. In fact, Amish kids aren’t indoctrinated until they are 16 I believe.

I have to say, the more I read ans see the more depressed and angry I get.
The United States and the utter fucking cheek to say that they went in to Iraq & Afghanistan with humanitarian intent (after they got rumbled on the first pack of lies) and THAT is how they treat the people whose land they brutally stole!!!
Is THAT the kind of humanitarianism the US wants to spread? Do Americans find the state of affairs in Indian Reservations acceptable???
Man, this is the 21st fucking Century and THE USA isn’t a poor country, what great shame there is in how these people are being treated!

Some of these places have unemployment levels of 65-85%; some have the worst teen suicide rates in the Western world; some have some of the worst national alcohol related illness rates!
Some of these people would have a better quality of life in the Gaza Strip!
I’m draughting up a letter, and doing what I have meant to do for a few years now, and I’m contacting someone from my Highland clan.
I have distant cousins on a Reservation due to people from my clan leaving Scotland and moving to what is now America and marrying into a “tribe” and their descendants still bear the clan name!
Man, there must be more than just fucked over people being herded into a pen so they can die out quietly…
