Last Judgment - History Revisited

Last Judgment - History Revisited

I received a really exciting email yesterday fromt he Director of This Place asking me to Show Case some of my Religious/Political pieces of Art at their Nude Art Nite Show, I was soooooooooooooooo chuffed to be invited, only, it’s in America, which poses two major problems, one being, that I live in little ole NZ thousands of miles away and am ULTRA phobic of flying! And two being that I can’t even afford a bus ticket into Auckland City! hahaha Ah well… It was still kinda humbling to be asked, but really, I’m not into all of the commercial side of stuff and I’d find it really daunting anyway! Still, it inspired me to do a few more in the series before I move on and try something different again. :)

Love the way you have used the different periods of art. Great work Jennifer.

  • JenniferB replied

Thanks Vellu… I had this wild image inside my head of the falling Walls of Jericho and the Falling of the Twin Towers… Somehow the two crazy concepts merged together and resulted in this. :-)

  • John Dicandia

    John Dicandia

This is like Dante’s !nferno meets Heironymous Bosch. Brilliant Collage!!! Me like a lot!! :))

  • JenniferB replied

Ha! I like putting a new twist on historical events, it keeps my crazy mind busy and out of trouble! ;-)

  • Lisa Jewell

    Lisa Jewell

Your use of symbology is absolutely fucking awesome. And I can’t help but be glad I won’t be around for the last judgment (metaphorically speaking)
It is not going to be pretty.

    Hey Jen,

Congrats on the invite, I wish you could A: afford and B: erase the fear of flying.

As you say, it is delight to be invited.

I admire this series so much
    Religious iconography meets social reality.
    xx

  • JenniferB replied

Ah… I hope humanity isn’t stupid enough to repeat past tragedies… This piece wasn’t really prophetic, it was more portraying human attitudes and how they never really change all that much over Time. :)
    Thanks Lisa, these pieces stretch my little ole brain a bit. ;

Jen.. I just think this is wonderful and that your work is wanted all over the world is a very cool feeling.. can’t you send the piece and someone here could surely REPRESENT YOU!! dang this is fooking FANTASTIC .. I think their site is so amaizng too… CONGRATS!!

  • JenniferB replied

Awww… Thanks linaji, oh, I have certain philosophies about Art and its commercialism, I prefer to give my work away to those who could otherwise not afford to own it, as most of the creative messages I portray are aimed at those who have suffered hardships in their lives, not those with big fat bank account. ;-)

Another amazing piece, Jennifer! Wish you could make the most of showing off your fabulous work!

  • JenniferB replied

  • -Lilith-

    -Lilith-

Ha ha…! Wonderful. I like this subject so much! Great image and I can relate to your description as well… :-)

  • JenniferB replied

  • Crowmanic

    Crowmanic

F’N-hell JennyB… amazing amount of thought/work went into this!! Excellent visual statement ….

  • JenniferB replied

Thanks Crow, these pieces are a bit more brain stretching than some of my others, and require more patience from me than I normally have! Lol… But they’re interesting concepts to explore. :)

  • BAD-HARVEST

    BAD-HARVEST

    Care

really great work Jen!!...something that provokes the thoughts of mind…
and how cool is that to have your work wanted so!!!...: ) x

  • JenniferB replied

Thanks Care, yep it was a huge compliment, but I don’t get into all of the commercialism of art or anything, if anyone wants a piece of my work, I’ll just give it to them. :)

  • Helene Henderson

    Helene Henderson

Wonderfully complex and thought provoking, Jennifer. Congratulations on the invite! I feel it’s more sharing my work than trying to sell. I hope you reconsider letting others in on your great talent . . . you wouldn’t have to be there, would you? At least I have found that to be true here. By the way, I hate flying, too! :P

  • JenniferB replied

yeah… I would have to be there, you’re in charge of your own section of the gallery and set-up and stuff, still, it was nice to be offered the opportunity, but shit damn you’ll never get me on a ferking plane!!! hahaha!

  • Matt Roberts

    Matt Roberts

    Great piece :)

  • JenniferB replied

    Thanks Matt. :)

  • Helene Henderson

    Helene Henderson

That’s too bad that you’d have to be there. Oh well. I am not surprised you were invited … you do such unique, fabulous work. I have flown and would still get on a plane - but not unless I absolutely had to :)

  • JenniferB replied

I’d only get on a plane if someone knocked me out with a shot of valium and I was carried on board! hahaha! Thanks helene. :)

  • Helene Henderson

    Helene Henderson

That sounds like a good plan to me, lol!

  • JenniferB replied

I’ve had these vivid nightmares for years about going down in a plane crash, now I’ve convinced myself that they’re premonitions!!! I even hate the sound of a plane flying overhead! I’d rather take a cruise… At least it’s at ground level! :)

  • Helene Henderson

    Helene Henderson

Ish, I’d hate to have those nightmares. Yep, I’m a sea-level woman myself :-)

  • JenniferB replied

When is that Show you’re going to be displaying your Art at again? Was it November?

  • Helene Henderson

    Helene Henderson

No, the opening is the 3rd – a week from tomorrow! Then the exhibit will be on for the month of October. I can’t wait to see the other art works and artists!

  • JenniferB replied

Sounds like a fun event to go to, and exciting too! They don’t have much of that kind of thing going on here in NZ… the Arts aren’t nearly promoted as much as they should be, I read about all of the big gallery events that bubblers in Aussie go to and feel really left out, NZ can be such a geographically isolated little spot in the ocean.

  • Helene Henderson

    Helene Henderson

Is it far to Australia? By boat, of course. It’s too bad there isn’t much of an art scene in NZ. I see other artists from there on this site. There’s nothing much to speak of here either, compared to Minneapolis/St. Paul, which is three and a half to four hours away.

  • JenniferB replied

Nope… Only about a 3 or 4 hour flight to Oz from here, depending on where you’re flying to, but still far enough to drop out of the sky from! hahaha! I’m doing a bit of an online search for NZ poetry slams and exhibitions, a couple of things have popped up in the Auckland area, especially for poetry readings.

  • Helene Henderson

    Helene Henderson

Well, there’s always the valium knock-out, lol! That would be so cool for you if you could find some poetry events nearby!! Let me know if you do.

  • JenniferB replied

    Will do. :-)
Take care and I’ll catch up with you later! xox

  • Thomas Simunsen

    Thomas Simunsen

Great work Jen as usual. Love all the symbolism…Too bad you couldn’t go…you could have excused yourself and stepped outside to go visit any nearby RBubblers!
Australia isn’t that far Jen you can almost swim it!! lol

  • JenniferB replied

Believe it or not, but I can’t swim! hahaha! Ah, the Gallery manager who contacted me is based in America, quite a bit further to kick-paddle with my floatation board. thanks thomas. :)

  • woof

    woof

great series!!! can’t you mail your work to these people?

  • JenniferB replied

Nope, it has to be printed, framed and displayed with a white pedestal or something that you have to supply yourself, doesn’t matter though, it felt good to be invited anyway. thanks woof. :)

  • DevineDayDreams

    DevineDayDreams

Oh, and this here artwork is fantastic..almost frightening, especially since The Last Day on Earth is playing on music tv as I type!!

  • JenniferB replied

hahaha! you’re right, I’m just not much of a risk taker these days, I strive to live a life of peaceful contentment and avoid anything that might challenge me or involve taking risks, probably because I’ve spent 99% of my life being ambitious and taking risks, and now I’m kind of in cruise mode! But yep, I’m going through a big avoidance stage at the moment and probably need to give myself a good kick in the arse! thanks sticky, you’re sooooooooooooo wise! ;-)

  • awdigitaldreams

    awdigitaldreams

WOOHOO! CONGRATULATIONS! and you WILL find the way! I share your fear of flying hon – but I am getting on a plane next year and coming over to NZ – its time to face my fear and find my courage – after all – what is a life if it is not lived? Oh and Tramadol works just as well (if not better) than valium PMSL! xoxox

  • JenniferB replied

Lol… I’ll keep the Tramadol in Mind! If ever I get on a plane I don’t want to be conscious when either boarding or getting off! hahaha! thanks dawn. :-))

  • Niki Renee

  • Sticky Flower

    Sticky Flower

    even better!now go paint!:-D

  • JenniferB replied

I’m doing something far less creative but as equally necessary… trying to put together a CV… the first step towards getting my arse back to work. :)

  • Sticky Flower

    Sticky Flower

good luck!I’m job hunting too :-/

  • JenniferB replied

thanks, but by the time I get this damn cv finished I’ll probably be retirement age!!! I can’t even figure out what the f@ck to write for my objective. :)

  • Sticky Flower

    Sticky Flower

i know the whole job hunt things a bit sucky these days.Teaching again?

  • JenniferB replied

something to do with teaching probably, smaller scale, maybe 1-1 tutoring or small groups with special needs… but I was thinking of lecturing in school programmes and technology too… ah shit… I don’t know! hahaha

  • Adrena87

    Adrena87

Congratulations on your invite!!!! Wish I could deliver your work there myself! Your work is brilliant!

  • JenniferB replied

Thanks Adrena… I’d probably feel really introverted and shy about my work being hung on a big gallery wall in front of a whole lot of strangers, it’s different here at redbubble because it feels like one big family, but REAL people crowding me would freak me out! :-)

  • Adrena87

    Adrena87

I know EXACTLY what you mean… Therein, the reason I’ve neglected showing anything I’ve ever created locally… LOL

You have much to be proud of… Your work is true artistry!

  • JenniferB replied

thanks Adrena, but it’s more for personal enjoyment than anything else, if anyone wants anything I create I’d rather just give it away, usually the people who appreciate it and understand it the most are those who couldn’t afford to pay for it anyway. :)

  • Adrena87

    Adrena87

    so very true!!!!

  • Tracey Mac

    Tracey Mac

Speaking of lazy, I’m still in my pj’s haha…...only 6 degrees here, so can’t see the point in getting too organised at this stage!! Brrrrr
Hope you catch up on yer sleep!

  • JenniferB replied

hahaha… yep, feeling the same, I’ve been hibernating from the cold all Winter… ah well, summer is on its way, it might be the kick in the ass I need to get up and about. :)
