A somewhat unusual sight – a Little penguin in the water just off Penguin Island in the middle of the day. Normally when visiting the island you may see a couple of penguins in burrows or hiding under the boardwalks, but they usually disappear early in the morning to fish all day and return at sunset. This is a fledgling, so he shouldn’t really be out by himself. Hope he made it back to shore.
Little penguins are the smallest penguin species, found on the southern coast of Australia and around New Zealand.
