Mute swans off Penguin island by

This is really quite an odd sight. Heading back to the jetty on Penguin Island, we saw two Mute swans paddling towards us. Penguin Island is a short ferry ride from Rockingham on the mainland but still not really where you expect to see these birds. There is a small breeding colony at Northam (about 100 km away) but this pair has been seen in the Rockingham area recently.
Mute swans are an introduced species in Australia.

My main photographic interests are wildlife and nature – animals, flowers, landscapes. I have always been a birder, so enjoy capturing birds and their behavior. They can be a bit frustrating at times – they are not always the most cooperative of subjects; then I resort to plants as at least they keep still! I just have more trouble getting their names right!
