This owl undoubtedly had had a long night hunting—By sunrise some serious sleep was needed. Lucky for me, he chose a perch where a small ray of sunlight traveled through the canopy and lit him up, if only for a few moments. Earlier, my battery had died, and I had forgotten my spare; therefore, I had to hike back to the car. If that had not happened, I would have never seen this beautiful owl in that glorious sunlight.
