Johnny Bly

Johnny Bly belongs to the following groups:

All Things Poetic, Artistic, Philosophical

The Outlaw Johnny Bly
He rode into town
Laid his money down
Said he’d have a double shot of rye
Looked around the room
In that dusty ‘ol saloon
He was gunnin’ for the outlaw Johnny Bly
Left his home in Kansas ‘bout a month ago it seems
He trailed the outlaw south, down as far as New Orleans
Then west through San An-ton’ over the burnin’ desert sands
Johnny’s headin’ for the freedom ‘cross the Rio Grande
His eyes set cold and hard
On the cowboys playin’ cards
But they’s already cashin’ in their chips
For the stranger in their bar
Wore a Texas Ranger star
And a big ol’ Colt revolver hangin’ from each hip
His clothes was filled with trail dust and his boots were caked with clay
Looked like he’d been ridin’ hard forever and a day
But now the trail had ended he knew Johnny was in town
He lifted up his glass and slowly drank the whiskey down
(Riff)
The Ranger turned around
Just as Curley’s hand went down
An instant later Curley’s gun was gone
For barely had he gripped it
When the Ranger’s bullet ripped it
Right from Curley’s hand before he’d ever drawn
The Ranger’s draw was quicker than most men had ever seen
His hand was sure and steady and his eye was mighty keen
He’s here to serve the justice for what Johnny Bly had done
Ya’ hear that John?
He’s here! Ya’ better ruuuuuun, ruuuuuun, ruuuuuun

The Ranger kept his gun out as he backed on up the stairs
He reached the top and started down the hall
His spurs was all you heard
Not a man had said a word
They all knew that Johnny’s time was up, his number had been called
(Riff)
The Ranger thought of Wichita and thought about his wife
The home he’d left to find the man who’d robbed her of her life His vengeful trail was ending for there was no place to run
The time had come for John to face the Ranger’s deadly gun
(Long riff)
Up ahead in two-oh-four
Johnny’s boots were on the floor
And Miss Lilly was just lettin’ down her hair
She was standin’ next to him
With a half-a-fifth of gin
When John heard the Ranger comin’ up the stairs
(Riff)
The Ranger kicked the door in just as Johnny jumped from bed
John hid behind his Lil the Ranger filled her full of lead
Johnny grabbed his gun and then he shot the Ranger dead
This here’s a Western saga where the bad guy wins instead
The Ranger’s draw was quicker than most men had ever seen
His hand was sure and steady and his eye was mighty keen
He tried to serve the justice for what Johnny Bly had done
I guess this was the time he shoulda’ ruuuuuun, ruuuuuun, ruuuuuun

This isn’t a song – it’s a Louis Lamour novel with a George G Gilman twist, set to music ;)
Does your Dad play and sing himself – in public?
That Johnny Bly sounds like a real motherwrestler!
    Tony.

Ya He sure is, I like the twist at the end, It’s not often the bad guy wins. My Dad’s a school teacher, he just likes to write songs and play his guitar for fun.

Very much reminded me of watching western movies with my Dad growing up. Thanks.
