I had time for half a dozen shots! We had travelled for six hours across Zimbabwe, only stopping for tolls and speed traps. We still had two hours’ driving to go and we took our break here. The highest point of this historical and spiritual place is 1549m. It took about half an hour to scramble up here…our legs were relieved to be in use again…and when we got this far, I stopped to try and grab my picture while my husband and son proceeded to the top, beckoning me to hurry up and join them. I’d have missed the last rays of the day if I had. The peak is called ’World’s View’ and what a view! Right across wild Africa. Cecil John Rhodes is buried here.
2000 years ago the San (bushmen) covered many of the stones with paintings and my son really wanted to see them. By then it was almost completely dark and the only way to see was to illuminate them with the built in flash on my camera. The last of my battery was used on those and then we groped our way back down to the welcome feel of our trusty truck.
Because of the lateness of the day, this one really benefits from viewing large.

A really beautiful place – beautiful capture too, sometimes you really have to stop and take the picture(s), to believe afterwards that you really saw it!
