I now look at this photo with a mixture of emotions…sadness and grief at what was once a truly wonderful, beautiful and sacred building and is no more (at least for now); and at the same time I am so very pleased I have been there, seen it, worshipped and taken this photo…captured the essence of what once was and shall be again.

Photos taken inside Christchurch Cathedral, Christchurch, Canterbury, New Zealand, New Zealand Herald February 28 2011!

When the fund to rebuild is launched, I will add a link to it.

Sony DSLR a330

An avid photographer, both still and moving, since I was 10 years old, I later discovered and developed a particular love of macro, which is one of my main genres. More recently, however, my repertoire has broadened to include stained glass windows and particularly the stunning beauty of outback New South Wales and South Australia.
I hope you enjoy the beauty of the Creation, captured and presented here for you.

    Great old building Jan

  • Hi Sharon…thank you. Yes it is truly amazing. And more than that, it is spirit filled and a place of worship. Went to a service there on SUnday which was wonderful. So glad you like it..xx

    Beautiful shot Jan. Nicely taken.

  • Thank you Gail…I was actually happy with this one (an amazing thing in itself) but others were ditched…hand held can be a little unreliable I’ve found. From a vague memory, I think I either placed the camera on something or braced myself…glad you like it!..xx

Please consider submitting to the Christian Churches, Statues and Crosses group

  • Hi Bernadette…thank you for your kind invitation, but I just went in to add it to this group and found it was already sitting there ‘awaiting approval’. Of course I realise you may have seen it by now.
But thanks heaps nevertheless. I take that as massive compliment..xx

This is just picture perfect Jan!!! WOW! The lighting is really great, perfect in fact! I have really missed you and your lovely work!

  • Hi Julie….its great to be back. One of the few compensations from missing my wonderful redbubble and superb friends here, is that I can return with a new appreciation and new lot of pics!!
Always has to be a positive side…and of course I had a great time travelling, seeing places I’d never visited before and of course, attending an incredible conference/course in Christchurch!

I hope, though, that I don’t disappoint you and have some reasonable stuff to put up..xxxx

Beautfiul shot, l love the lighting in this…anna : )

  • Hi Anna! Thanks so much. I’m rapt that you like it. Funnily enough, I didn’t notice the lighting at the time. It was only later when I was working on it that I spotted it and was somewhat delighted myself.
The camera obviously did its job and saw what I missed..x

  • WOW!!!! I just spotted this when I came to look and revisit the previous grandeur and glory of a now earthquake damaged building. Sadly there is a massive comparison between the once was and now is.

So thank you so much for the honour you have given this incredibly special place.

  • Hi Lorilee. So glad you like this shot. It was indeed a beautiful Cathedral. I am just so pleased I was able to see it before the earthquake that destroyed it. So to have people like you appreciate its beauty is a blessing.
