heat wave by Jan Stead JEMproductions

heat wave by

Yesterday, like much of the south west we in Wagga sweltered in close to record temperatures, peaking at 44ºC, (I can tell you what it was F, but do you really want to know??). The Murrumbidgee River provided a place for cooling off and beating the heat.

There were a number of different ways of using the river to rehydrate and cool.

This is one, which served the dual purpose of showing off and cooling. Cool in more ways than one, may have been their thoughts.

About Jan Stead JEMproductions

An avid photographer, both still and moving, since I was 10 years old, I later discovered and developed a particular love of macro, which is now one of my main genres. More recently, however, my repertoire has broadened to include stained glass windows and rural & outback New South Wales, Australia, among other subjects.
I hope you enjoy the the beauty of creation, captured and presented here for you.

Looks like fun Jan and a great way to stay cool. Great shot.

  • Thank you Bev! I was actually a bit concerned for the people swimming in the river as these guys roared up and down, but I think the noise which preceded the jet skis ensured no one was in their way..xxxx

Noisy though. Good shot with excellent water movement

  • Absolutely noisy. We live on the river and at first I thought the roar of their engines was that of motor bikes on the road…until they got closer!
So I shot out with camera and tripod under my arm and set up with the movement setting in place

Noisy blighters I reckon! Nice capture.

  • Absolutely!!! I started a piece of writing about that and their egocentric tricks mid river but it just was turning into something more agonising than I wanted it…bit a bit of writer’s block I think. Maybe I was trying to hard..lol!
But it was a challenge to see if I could get a shot of something moving so fast. Glad you like it..xxxx

Wonderful and excellent shot love it!

  • Thank you very much…I had to stand out in the blazing sweltering sun to catch them, so I’m glad it was all worth while and that you like it! :D

Whatever works to lessen this heat.
Good shot Jan. Did you have your feet in the water to take this?

  • I wish!!! lol! If I’d gone down to the water’s edge I would’ve been too likely to slip in, as there are rocks there. Much safer up on the bank, if hotter…
I actually didn’t recall that I actually managed to catch them before they disappeared and waited for their return for absolutely ages! Grrrr! Oh well, I got some other shots while I was waiting, so it wasn’t all in vain. THank heavens there are wonderful appreciative people like you…makes all my suffering worthwhile! haha!..xxxxOo

A welcome sight for those of us who are still in winter mode! A fun happy image, Jan!

  • As the snow scenes are to those of us who are wilting in the 115º+F weather here…
But the horrific bushfires that come with it take the shine of such shots as this.
Mind you, I hear you are having the most incredibly heavy snow falls in parts of the U.S…so extremes of weather world wide seem to be the order of the day….but hey, I thought it was supposed to be Spring over your way about now???..xxxx
