ladybird, ladybird, fly away home by

ladybird ladybird
fly away home

no nursery rhyme time
she does not wish to fly
but sit in the sun
all day, by and by

so ladybird ladybird
do what you will
laze on the bud
in the sun until

day’s end comes
and sunlight fades
and sitting alone
in the shade

leads you to leave
find a haven safe and warm
till daylight returns
with the coming of the dawn

About Jan Stead JEMproductions

An avid photographer, both still and moving, since I was 10 years old, I later discovered and developed a particular love of macro, which is now one of my main genres. More recently, however, my repertoire has broadened to include stained glass windows and rural & outback New South Wales, Australia, among other subjects.
I hope you enjoy the the beauty of creation, captured and presented here for you.

Once again, thank you for your wonderful words and comments….they do me good ;)
I couldn’t resist this little lady sitting so stationery and still for me..didn’t even move while I raced inside and grabbed my camera!! :O
Just waited patiently for her camera shoot!

Just wish I had a closer macro lens….

hi jan, did you know that you can sex lady birds easily…i remember reading that the more spots they have they are female…i think …lol…great shot jan :)) k

  • wow, no I didn’t know that! And it’s funny you should mention it as I was wondering that when writing a reply about her/him and nearly put in the gender non-specific politically correct terminology! lol!

But going by the recommended method you’ve shared with me, my guess is that this is a male…

oohhh…I could say something quite sexist here, but I’ll resist…cos it wouldn’t be kind…I’m so glad you like the shot…I had a very good, still and well behaved model!

Beautifull done, they are such lovely little creatures and you’ve captured this one so well….just as it will take off into the wind.

  • Thank you Elaine. Yes they are lovely…whenever I see one I race for the camera; usually they’ve gone or fly off when I approach. But this one obviously wanted to pose…or was too lazily soaking up the sun!
I did a 360 trying to capture him without casting a shadow, and couldn’t really get as close as I wanted as a result. Ah well, that’s for another time.

Great capture Jan, and what a sweet poem to go with it!!! ;-)

  • Hi Julie…thanks so much for dropping by and leaving a comment with all you have on your plate and the millions of bubblers whose work you have to sift through.
I’m rapt that you like the shot…the writing’s not spot on, but I was tired of fiddling with it…may yet go back and edit.

WOW. Instant favourite. I love your poem too.

  • Oh really??? I’m flattered and humbled that you would favourite this shot. Was such a quick one of a humbled ladybird in our garden that I didn’t give it much of a thought at the time.

And thank you for your kind words about my words..xxxx
