dapper lad...my grandpa by

As I close my eyes
the years drift away
to another time
and another day

and there he is
a bright young dapper lad
as he picks a flower
with a jaunty walk
and a twinkle in his eye

he was a man
of the times
he was a man
ahead of his time
he was a man
for all times….

About Jan Stead JEMproductions

An avid photographer, both still and moving, since I was 10 years old, I later discovered and developed a particular love of macro, which is now one of my main genres. More recently, however, my repertoire has broadened to include stained glass windows and rural & outback New South Wales, Australia, among other subjects.
I hope you enjoy the the beauty of creation, captured and presented here for you.

wonderful old phot, gorgeous man!!! hugsxxx

  • Thank you Hilary. It was actually you posting that photo of yourself as a child which prompted me to put this one up. It’s a photo of my grandfather before he was my grandfather. He wasn’t even married at the time this was taken, which I think was around the turn of the century…around 1900, that is! Maybe a little later. He was born in 1882 and was married my grandmother when he was in his 30s in, I think 1916.

Lovely writing Jan!!! Great picture…. I just LOVE these old photo’s….. I’ll have to look through some of mine!!

  • The writing is actually the beginning of a song I wrote about my grandpa many, many moons ago, but has never seen the light of day ~ till now!

I adore old photos too, and this man is the one whose skill with and enthusiasm for photography I soaked up eagerly as a child. I actually am fortunate enough to have his old Rollicord twin lens reflex camera, in its original leather case, complete with a wooden lens cap he’d made himself (I presume to replace one he lost).
So while I love old photos, this one takes on a whole new and bigger significance for me….oh and he processed and developed them like this too…I look forward to seeing yours now!!!

Beautiful Jan – I love the way these photos were taken in the ‘old days’ – its great to see the men from past generations so handsome and vital and brings it home just how important the part was that they played in our history. Lovely poem Jan – caps the whole image off to perfection.

Jan I omitted to say that this would make a wonderful card for family members, especially with the dedication poem attached.

Very apt title, and lovely poem and story Jan.

  • Hi! I’m so glad you like it. He was a very special man to me and I love this pic of him. My mum told me that apparently as he was walking on his way to the photographer’s to sit for this portrait, he picked a flower from his sister’s garden and popped it in his button hole!

Thank you for sharing this, he certainly looks the gentleman. the poem is a great tribute to him.
  • It was/is a rare privilege to be able to tell others of my grandfather, who was a wonderful man, truly a gentle man ~ with a definite streak of larrikin about him. (See Peter Pan).
Thank you for your lovely comment. It is very humbling.

    VERY Handsome!! ({:o)

  • Wow Cathy! Thank you so very much. I think he’s pretty handsome too. Of course he didn’t look quite like this when I knew him, but much of him remained the same!
