A fleeting moment in the day in the life of a native Australian bee, or is it a fly pretending to be a bee?.

one of those fortuitous shots

An avid photographer, both still and moving, since I was 10 years old, I later discovered and developed a particular love of macro, which is one of my main genres. More recently, however, my repertoire has broadened to include stained glass windows and particularly the stunning beauty of outback New South Wales and South Australia.
I hope you enjoy the beauty of the Creation, captured and presented here for you.

Thank you. It was one of my first photos with the macro lens, so a bit of a lucky one; I was so surprised by the result and have been trying to get a bee to stay that still again ever since!

  • Hi Alvin..I have a strange feeling you may have passed this way quite some time ago. It is only now that I have come here to order a card of this as a gift for one of he people who really encouraged me in my photography that I discovered you here, waiting patiently for me.

I’m so pleased you like this, one of my very earliest macro shots with my first digital camera. Catching that bee was a total freak shot and one I’ve never been able to recapture ~ though I haven’t stopped trying!!

Funny story, it’s actually a fly!

    Nice photo anyway Jan!!

  • I’m glad you like my fly….yes, someone else corrected me on this…I knew it wasn’t the usual bumble-type bee…and knew the Aussie native ones were different, so seeing it thought it was a bee, I jumped to that conclusion too…did you spot the anatomical differences?

You image has been FEATURED in The Beginners Corner Group.

    A beautiful shot.

  • Oh WOW!! Really? Thank you so much for letting me know John. It never ceases to amaze and, indeed, totally floor me when one of my shots receives such recognition.
I’m tempted to saw ‘what a buzz’, but that really would be a bit of a cliché, wouldn’t it?
