the gate of heaven

the gate of heaven

The revolving door entrance into St Paul’s cathedral may be a modern necessity, but all who enter face this sign to recall them to the purpose and intent of this wonderful building ~ more than a mere tourist attraction but a holy place of worship.
One of the highlights of our travels through England and a tiny taste of Scotland, was to attend a Sunday morning service at the Cathedral. No tourist event this as hundreds came to worship; to find or rediscover the meaning of this iconic Christian church.

Incredible image, Jan! Your lighting is perfect! A reminder to us all as we enter God’s house.

  • Jan Stead JEMp... replied

Thank you Pat for your wonderful words and affirmation of my own view and thinking. I agree completely that such a reminder is important and valuable, especially to those of us who are so accustomed to entering ‘God’s house’ that we become complacent. Oh and as for the lighting, well that is God’s too!..xxxx

Thank you my friend for your enthusiastic affirmation. While the words and visual representation of an important truth caught my attention, the finer details did not reveal themselves to me until I uploaded it…and even then it is only such amazing comments as yours that has helped me see through others’ eyes..xxxx

Hold it open i’m coming soon.
    Great capture all round

  • Jan Stead JEMp... replied

no need to John…it’s a revolving door, so it’s always open! haha!

But I’m glad you like it. And capture it was as I virtually turned around, spotted it, waited for a couple of people to go through it and quickly took the shot before anyone else got in the way! And as it was raining heavily outside, a lot of people were coming inside to take shelter. Just as well the door was open..xxxx

    Wow, Jan…..this is great!!xx

  • Jan Stead JEMp... replied

Hi Marie! Oh thank you…I’m so relieved and glad to hear that you felt it worked. While it caught my attention at the time, I was none to sure just how it would come across or look when put up.
I certainly think the black mat improves it though! Very glad you like it!..xxxxOo

Jan, When I first saw this, I thought it would make an excellent bookcover for a Christian book.

  • Jan Stead JEMp... replied

haha! I like it. Does this mean I have to go and write a book now?
Mind you lots of people like you and Sally Omar, to name but two of the many great Christian writers on the bubble, would do a way better job than me. But then….we can’t sell books, let alone writing on here can we. At least not yet!
But maybe food for future thought?..xxxx

    Jan this is awesome, I can feel how you were feeling when you took the photo. The reflection is amazing. Like if you didnt understand the first time you read it its there again. Go girl :}}}

  • Jan Stead JEMp... replied

Hi Vicki! Wow…thank you so much, tho I must confess I hadn’t thought about it to the extent you have. But I know what you’re saying and the repetition of the message, while it reinforces the words, was purely accidental…or at least I think it was an accident?..xxxx

WOW!!! Really? I would never have expected that as it isn’t really a shot of a church or statue or cross! In fact, I’d totally forgotten I submitted it to the group! But thank you for letting me know..xxxx
