kyoto gardens

We spent four wonderful days in Japan, based in Osaka. But while we were in this wonderful corner of Japan, we toured not only that great city, but took the train to other places, such as Kyoto.
We made the most of our time, and soaked up the history and amazing archetecture, both in buildings (incredible temples, shrines and castles) and the gardens within which they so gracefully reside.
Seeing wonderful settings of true peace and tranquility as these made me realise how poor are our own attempts at creating oriental or Japanese gardens in a foreign land.

kyoto gardens belongs to the following groups:

    Beautiful so restful

  • Jan Stead JEMp... replied

thank you. Yes it was…except that we barely paused, as we were in a hurry to ‘do’ all of Kyoto by foot in less than a day in time to catch the train back to our hotel in Osaka!!! My poor husband’s patience was sorely tried by me that day, as I couldn’t help but stop to take a photo every few seconds!!!

wonderful gardens, fantastic shot and great place. hugsxxx

I’d heard about and seen some Australian examples of Japanese gardens, but nothing could have prepared me for the sheet beauty and perfection of the real thing…and on a far larger scale than can be achieved in a smaller more suburban setting.

There’s nothing like the real thing! (and no, that’s not Coke)lol!

The only down side was that it was very grey and humid that day, but the rain later in the day was a welcome relief.xxxx

Looks a lovely serene place jan.

  • Jan Stead JEMp... replied

Hi Sharon…yes, very serene and just a tiny bit of a contrast to the countryside we’d left only a day or so before!!!!
But I adjusted pretty quickly and simply soaked up the serenity and peace….oh, and was even more snap happy than usual!!! I think I filled up two cards in two days!

JAN!!!!!!!!!! THis is BEAUTIFUL!!!!!! I love the lush greens (my fave color!) Stunning scene, and you captured it so well my friend!

  • Jan Stead JEMp... replied

    Hi Julie!!!
I’m thrilled that you like it. It’s an old one, which had been sitting hidden away until I tripped over it today when I was searching for another shot (never did find it! lol). The lush vibrant green really struck me, particularly as we’d just left a very dry drought stricken early Spring to arrive in a lush Autumn Japan, still warm and very wet!
Thank you for the compliment, support and encouragement which I always treasure from you.xxxx

beautiful capture. I like the little reflection of the sky in water. it pulls you into image . clever shot

  • Jan Stead JEMp... replied

Many thanks. I’m so pleased you like it, and thank you for pointing out the reflection of the sky. I knew I was catchin a_ relflection when I took it, but hadn’t somehow noticed the one you mention…so I don’t know about ‘clever’! _Some intent, but largely accidental I think.

the green is soft and tender.

  • Jan Stead JEMp... replied

Aren’t they incredible?? I simply had to pause and take a photo…and I’m so glad I did. I mean, its not somewhere you can go every day or anything, so I had to grab the opportunity when I had it. xxxx

Yep, could jump right into that scene! Nice one Jan :D

  • Jan Stead JEMp... replied

Hi Deanna. Yep, it certainly was/is magical…almost as though I was in Disneyland, in one of the ‘lands’ in the magic kingdom or something. It was quite surreal but so incredible. If you ever get a chance I’d suggest you take the opportunity to ‘jump into the scene’! xxxx

Hi Jan. A Garden somewhere …. is looking for photos of this quality and calibre if you are interested in submitting this photo and any other photos you may have with a garden design theme.
    Cheers, Graham.

  • Jan Stead JEMp... replied

    Hi Graham,
Thank you for your wonderful comment, and your flattery!!! But seriouslyl, I’m very pleased to hear there is a garden group. I have long felt there was a need for such a group but had not found one.
I’ll head in there now and join. I have some but not heaps of photos like this, as we were only in Japan for four days…but we’re going to the UK and Norway in a couple of weeks, so I’ll keep this group in mind when I’m taking photos..xx

oh thank you so much for the feautre Julie….I am totally amazed and very humbled! This shot was taken back in 06 with my first digital camera when I was still a beginner in the digital format.
More to the point, this is a true credit to the quality of my Konica Minolta, a wonderful camera whose demise I still regard somewhat wistfully…so it is rather nice to have it’s memory honoured in this way!!
