earth & sky

A quick wet on wet experiment with my new double stacked travel set of brilliant watercolours, made in the Czech Republic. On the lid, which doubles as a palette, it says KOH-I-NOOR HARDTHMUTH, a.s.
Can anyone tell me what this means? Is it the name of a person or a company…or something totally different as its all new to me?
The paper is Canson Watercolour paper, 185 gsm.

Love the “wet on wet” work!!! It has a summer feel warm and fresh at the same time.

  • Jan Stead JEMp... replied

oh you picked it!!! You’re obviously a watercolourist or at the very least an artist!!! hmmm…hiding your light under a bushel???
Thank you for your complilments about this work. I hadn’t consciously thought about the feel of it, but then I did paint it during the Christmas holidays, so that may have had a bearing.
Oh, I nearly forgot, Christmas for you is in deepest winter. Here it’s the height of a usually very hot summer.
So, I suspect the golden patch is sand from the beach.

You can come again, you say such lovely things!!! lol! xxxx

THank you Hilary. I still have a little difficulty accepting those words in connection with me, which is silly as I spent about 8 years studying it, which included going to Art School to complete my art major while I was at university studying teaching…
but I guess that’s cos everyone was always better than me, and I knew it!!!

    Lovely vibrant work Jan.

  • Jan Stead JEMp... replied

Hi Sharon. Well, the reason it’s vibrant is the watercolours I used. They are referred to as ‘brilliant’, which means that the colours are just that, brilliant; as in bright, intense, vibrant and strong. The amount of pain I used here was really pretty minimal, so to get this effect with only maybe a minute’s work and no more than one layer of painting, speaks for itself I think.

But I’m glad you like it. xxxx

Hi Jan – gorgeous use of colour. Brilliant.
Can i ask that you add the details about watercolour in your description so that i can accept it into Watercolour paintings.

  • Jan Stead JEMp... replied

done! I hope it is enough and what you want Marion. This was extremely early days for me as I’d always been scared of watercolour and thought you had to be a brilliant artist to use them. In other words, not me!!
But a few years ago I had a change of heart and decided to experiment and poked my toe in the water…and to my surprise and delight, I found it was fun and not quite as impossible as I’d feared.
Thank you so much for your appreciation of it.
The other I did at the same time was this:

  • Jan Stead JEMp... replied

whoops! Sorry, don’t know what happened there!!! I did do another which is called _sunset on water and was accepted into the Watercolour group some months back.

Anyway Marion, thank you so much. the gorgeous use of colour is the colours themselves. But I am absolutely rapt that you, who is such an expert in the field of watercolours, has said such lovely kind things.
    Thank you my friend!! xxxx

Thank you very much for posting this Jan and sharing it with us, and congrats on your bravery too.!
It is vibrant and beautifully balanced, well done :-))

  • Jan Stead JEMp... replied

What an absolutely wonderful and insightful comment Enivea (by the way, how much rain have you got so far?) and your wonderful, kind and complimentary words. The detail you give combined with your response make me think you just might be an artist!! Am I right???

It does take some deep breath taking and girding of one’s courage to upload artwork like this…esp when I’m is hesitant to apply the term to myself or any paitning etc I do.
Which of course makes a mockery of what I’m doing at the moment…uploading and sharing all this stuff.
But I do have an ulterior motive, which shall be revealed very soon.

  • Jan Stead JEMp... replied

Hi Bonnie!! How are you my friend? Thank you for stopping by and having a look at some of my latest stuff. Not that this is recent; I painted it a couple of years ago now. But it is new to RB.
Thank you so very much for your praise, compliments & encouragement!!!
If you have a look, I’ve posted quite a few sketches, of varying subject matter and quality. A couple more to come, ulterior motivation in my back pocket. xxxx

  • Jan Stead JEMp... replied

haha!!! You are definitely amazing Julie and I thank God for bringing you into my life!!! Thank you for your wonderful, detailed comments and affirmation sistAH… ~ blush ~ I am humbled and quite blown away by your amazing words.
The ‘bold use of colour’ was merely me trying out some intense ‘brilliant’ new watercolours I’d just bought. I was rapt and this was a fun experiment. I’m so very pleased you like it. xxxx

It is lovely! I love how the brilliant colours blend into smooth gradient colours. The reflections are very pretty! I see a peaceful home in a valley meadow along the banks of a calm river.

  • Jan Stead JEMp... replied

Oh thank you so much Sharon…I am blown away not only by your lovely comments and details but by what you see in this splash of colours on paper!
You obviously have a great imagination!
But it so happens our home sits on the banks of a peaceful calm river! lol!
So…maybe that somehow informed the painting?

Whatever, I’ll take it as a compliment or at the very least, a positive, a plus!!
Thank you for stopping by, looking and, most of all, taking the time to comment.
