Great pic and words Jan. :)

  • Jan Stead JEMp... replied

Thanks Sharon. I must confess to having an ulterior motive at the moment, so all with be revealed later one, I hope.
But glad you like the words too. I actually sketched this, scribbled it in continuous line, of a lady in church!!
Had to be quick before I was caught!!! lol! xxxx

Jan you have so much talent and again this is a great example. I wish you could build you confidence up enough to do more of this work as its exceptionally good.

  • Jan Stead JEMp... replied

Oh Bev, I thank you so much. You know this is a huge step into the deep end for me…actually showing my stuff…very vulnerable making, feeling, taking…but that was before.
    That was me months ago.
Now I look at pics like this and wish I could still do it. This was one of those freakish, virtually one off things…although I’ve done a few ‘one offs’ I never seem to be able to recreate them. Its almost as though there’s too much thought and intent. Maybe I should just let it happen?
BUt I will take your wonderful words of encouragement to heart and surprise you.
Maybe that way I will be able to come close to being able to thank you enough. xxxxxxxxOxxxxxx

Great reply Jan – just relax and let it happen. I guess its like writing, if the inspiration is there then its easy. I would love to sketch, my Dad did and for that reason I’d like to try but I never seem to have the free time to do it, the same it writing.

  • Jan Stead JEMp... replied

Bev, I will take your advice and work on not working on it but, as you said, letting the inspiration take me. When I do it is indeed easy and in many senses a great gift to me.

Sometimes doing these things we long to do is about making the time to do them. Making them and ourselves a priority!!! xxxx

Just a tic … yep that was quick! lol
Did you really sketch that? You are so talented! all my sketches only look like the person if you hold them upside down flat out in front of you – as if you are looking at them laying down their head at your feet! !! lol

    Stunning work lady!
    ☼ BRAVO! ☼

  • Jan Stead JEMp... replied

lol!!! I love your sense of humour…you have me rolling in stitches by the time I finish reading your comments. ANd this is no exception.
Yep, I sat in church next to this lady for just a few minutes to give her a card and while she was opening it, sketched her. I have to confess I surprised my_self!_ I usually draw all the lines in and then don’t get it right.

I guess it goes to show that sometimes less is more! One of my teachers at art school (whoops…did I let that slip out???)...not really how it sounds…I was just doing an art major…um, I think I’ve not only swallowed both my feet, but a grave as well!!!!
Anyway, as I was saying, or started to say….....she would give us 5 minutes to do drawings and sketches the size of a desk that would normally take hours. She said that you did your best work when you didn’t have time to stop and think, cos you tend to over think and squash creativity out of it…And a tiny part of one of the pieces I did with her is shades of emotion
But its all just mindless fun really….but talking of upside down drawings, a trick I picked up years ago is to draw things upside down…I mean, don’t get someone to stand on their head, but draw them that way…like, you start at the bottom of the paper drawing what you are seeing at the top…so you draw their head and work to their feet. When you’ve finished you turn it up the right way, (i.e. so they’re standing on their feet, not their head) and you’ll be amazed at how good it looks, how much better than your drawings normally are…...
    OK..
next session in Jan’s how to draw classes begins at…...
    ; )
Sorry, I get carried away!!! lol!
But I don’t think I said thank you for being so nice and saying all those lovely things…so thank you! xxxx

Very well done Jan… your drawing and your words : )!! I know what you mean…..sometimes you just have to do it..and not think about it.. Wen x

  • Jan Stead JEMp... replied

hehe! I’ve often said that thinking gets in the way!!!
So I avoid it as much as possible.
Thank you so much for your compliments, support and encouragement.xxxx
