banjo

As I was wandering through the city, camera in hand and ready to shoot anything and everything even vaguely urban, (living in the country I don’t get much chance), I spotted this fellow busking on a street corner and simply had to take a photo.

His playing was pretty amazing too, so hope he was well rewarded for his efforts!

oh, cool – very cool, sweet Jan!!! :)))
...and that poster by the player… i love your sense of humour, lolll!
    :-)))) xxxxx

Thank you again…it actually was very cool that day, couldn’t work out how he wasn’t wrapped in scarf, beanie and overcoat! But he simply transfixed me, as I thought he was perfect, just amazing, and so, well, almost a caricature!
But oh sweet Nat, you flatter me and my sense of humour. The poster just happened to be there already, really, it was, though I did have a bit of a wry smile after I uploaded the shot and noticed it in frame!!!!!

I wonder how much he charges to do a gig tho’?lol!!!

    Rapt that you love it…

    Oh and hey, I’ve just noticed it’s been featured in Candid Photography!!!!!!! : O : O : O ???

    J…...xx

Jan i stand and watch these buskers for hours, sad really, neverless good capture and free advertising for Mr Hooker jell xx

  • Jan Stead JEMp... replied

lol!!!! Your ‘free advertising for Mr Hooker’ is wonderful…do you have LJ Hooker in the UK? THe reason I ask is they have an ad campaign, for which the catch cry is “Thank you Mr Hooker!” It’s sort of become a bit of a slogan for the company.

Anyway, I know what you mean about the buskers…and yes it is sad, poignant, but I think in many ways they’re fortunate. Sad that they need to be doing it and are in such a situation. But hey, they’re heaps better off than the men we have in the cities here who stand at traffic lights, waiting to clean the windscreens of as many cars as they can while the lights are red.
At least the buskers have their music, which most of them seem to enjoy…and they give pleasure to others also.

In places like the Tube in London, I think there’s a sort of audition process before a busker can get a permit to busk there. Not sure if that’s it or not, but there’s some sort of a process of standard they have to meet first.
The busker we saw/heard there were absolutely first class!!!

Thanks for your comment about the capture…it was good he was so into his music…no posing, caught him in action. A real candid shot.

Cool shot Jan!!!! ;-) So was he the “Hooker” for lease??? LOLOLOL

  • Jan Stead JEMp... replied

    hahahaha!! I needed a good laugh…thank you!
Um, it was an accident, really truly it was! I don’t know what I would’ve done it I’d noticed, and particularly if your words had occurred to me!!!

Although when I saw it, I thought it was a little amusing and somewhat ironic. But then I don’t think I’m as quick off the blocks as you.

But I’m so glad you like it. So did Candid Photography, where it’s been featured!!!

I left it loading when I went to bed last night, was out tonight and have just come in to find not only comments left about him, but that he’s been featured!!!

    Talk about blown away!!

Great shot Jan. We have a fellow here who plays outside the liquor stores. I’m not sure if he figures that the folks buying liquor have more money to donate to him or if he’s trying to get money to buy liquor.

  • Jan Stead JEMp... replied

What a wonderful observation (about ‘your’ busker)!! Maybe he’s hoping to paid in liquor!???
See if you can take a shot of him sometime…but I guess you’d have to tell him or ask him afterwards. Otherwise you mightn’t get the genuine candid shot.

Thank you for your comment, and I’m so pleased you like it.

no…don’t know anything about banjo’s….it just looks good…looks kind of new to me :)

  • Jan Stead JEMp... replied

Actually, now that I look at it, it does appear rather shiny and new, doesn’t it?

Bit surprising if he’s a down and out busker though…Hmmmm…a bit of a mystery there I suspect?

There’s quite a few professional muso’s who do actually busk…keeps their hand on the job during gigs…so to say…helps them to keep from getting too self-conscious on stage…have known guys in supergroups that busked…just not recognised out of image by fans ...also keeps them in the mainstream to be able to continue writing about the mainstream of life, with truth :)
