With my brand new travel set of ‘brilliant’ watercolours, I experimented using a very quick wet on wet wash to capture an impression of a glorious pink sunset flung over the hills and reflected in the river.

    Hi sweet Jan :)

    Fabulous abstract!!!

Hi there Nat!!! Lovely to ‘see’ your lovely smiling face again…a
I’m glad you like it…it really came about from me playing around with some new watercolours at the time and a bit of experimentation.
However, I’m disappointed in this digital image of the original as I’m in the process of learning a new photo editing software I’ve just bought. So its nowhere near the size I thought I had.
Grrrrr….might go back to Photoshop, at least for a while till I have the other mastered.

well, well done on this one – i love your new watercolours!!!
    and keep playing, sweet Jan!

Yeah, its funny how we miss it when we’re away, isn’t it?
I was away for 6 days without access to computer, well only had a quick peep one day, as my mum doesn’t has a very small download limit (as you do when you’re 84!) and I was very careful not to go over it.

So, by the time I got home I think I was suffering from a bad case of withdrawal symptoms…but more than that, I’d actually missed everyone!!!

ANd this time Nat, we missed you!

So a very warm welcome back!!!!!

Beautiful mixture of colors and love the design!! Nice work!

  • Jan Stead JEMp... replied

THank you Stephanie….I did this a few years ago and had forgotten all about it until I found it yesterday, so thought it might slot into the watercolour group. A bit daring of me I know.
But as for design, I think that was more by way of accident as I had a basic design in mind, but the results were more that of an experiment with the medium.

But thank you for your lovely words and generous comment.

glorious abstract, great artwork, you can see the imagery very plainly, so very well done, and wonderful colours. hugs

  • Jan Stead JEMp... replied

Thank you Hilary. I’m getting daring posting stuff which was just me messing around and experimenting, aren’t I?
So glad you can see the imagery ~ I wasn’t at all sure.
Thank you for your lovely comment.

love wet on wet … got to be quick!!! brilliant.

  • Jan Stead JEMp... replied

Hi Poupoune. I love it too and yes, it is very quick, but a lot of fun seeing what the paint and water do when you let them ‘do their own thing’ and give them free play.
Less control than other mediums and techniques. Which probably accounts for my timidity with watercolours. I only started with them a few years ago and this was one of my earliest goes at it.
Thank you for your very generous comment.

it might have been quick but the reason is stunning. wonderful watercolour.

  • Jan Stead JEMp... replied

oh thank you Marion. The speed with which I did it and the method used almost felt like cheating!
I value and appreciate your descriptive and detailed comment. Your support and encouragement is wonderful. Thank you.

Wow Jan…this is gorgeous…love the colours and your composition :)

  • Jan Stead JEMp... replied

Thank you CJ. You’re too kind.
It was a bit of an experiment. There was this brilliant pink sunset reflected on the river and I raced outside to capture it with my camera. But I must have rushed a bit too much, cos all the shots were blurry.
So I decided to have a go with my new travel watercolours and try a wet on wet or wash approach.
So it was fast, quick...but great fun.

    So glad you like it!

Oh thank you. I was just experimenting with the colours and washes to see what would happen, although I did have a shot I took of a pink sunset over the river in mind.
I’m so pleased I got the colours right for you. ; )

Thank you Bonnie. I did reply to your lovely and kind comment a few days ago, but the server went down and I lost it. I know, it sounds like a pathetic excuse, but I feel badly that I still haven’t replied.
I must confess both the home page feature and the massively HUGE response has absolutely floored me. Soooo I am celebrating the moment, although receiving such recognition for an experiment which only took a few minutes is a tad difficult to swallow…but I’ll try! lol
