dreams found?
Some time ago I posted a shot of a dead, dry hill covered in nothing but red earth. One lone tree stood on the horizon. No other signs of life could be seen.
But a couple of days ago I drove past this same hill and was transfixed by the scene before me.
Indeed, so compelled was I by the vision of transformation, I stopped.
And got out my camera, of course.
This is the ‘after’ shot.
You can see the ‘before’ shot at lost dreams
.............................................
once it was lost
but now it is found
our hopes and dreams
were dry dust all around
but now hope returns
our dreams are reborn
where once there was naught
but red, bare dirt
a new coat of green
now covers the earth
or is this all too soon
premature?
there is much still to be done
many changes needed
to our ‘use’ of this earth
and rain
such rain
a great rain
a Flood
maybe?
maybe we
will see
hope truly revived
while we’re alive

Many thanks Trevor. I hadn’t realised the shadows were in place or indeed what they were doing!
At the time I took it I was too busy trying to remember how the other shot looked and to get this one to match it as closely as possible.
But thank you for your fresh eyes, encouragement and affirmation.

While the paddock LOOKS good, sadly the damage is still there; the tree stands on it’s own, an unnatural state and I see this scenario all around the farming regions. The land is worn out from all the taking and not enough giving. Drought only highlights the damage.

You speaks as one who knows first hand, Enivea!
I tired to enter an additional comment following up on the first comment received, but I lost the internet connection in the midst of it.
Basically I was trying to say in far more words and with less credence what you have stated so succinctly.
I think the final piece I added was that the drought wasn’t yet broken, the dreams had been lost and not picked up yet, for the land hasn’t either. And summised two things..
1. that maybe the rain when it falls revives hope, &
2. we will only be able to say the drought is broken when the people of/on the land, the farmers tell us it is.
I hope that makes me sound much less of the city slicker I once was..[fingers crossed…and everything else!]
THank you for your deep thoughtful and impassioned comments! I greatly appreciate the time you have taken to add your valuable perspective and words.
